How to install French Drain Fabric - Do It Right the First Time!

Make sure to cut the excess fabric before you burrito wrap it. If you see that you're going to have a heavy overlap, you want to trim that. You only want a few inch overlap to use the fabric pins - that's it. If you double it up it's not going to take in water as well. We have a double punched fabric so the water just flows through with capillary action through the holes. But if you overlap it the holes don't line up, so you're not going to take in any water.

Now this makes sense. Seen a few french drain short videos that jsut dont add up. I'm going to go with this one.

Water pools up in my backyard whenever it rains and I have learned a lot about how to fix the problem from watching your videos. So thank you, French Drain Man! Your drain-building techniques and advice make much more sense than any other videos I’ve seen, including Home Depot’s how-to video.

The only step that doesn’t look effective is when your team seals the two flaps of the water-permeable fabric together to create a burrito. Seems like it would be better to somehow sew or clip the flaps together along the entire length of the French drain without leaving any gaps rather than poke a wire spike through the overlapped material every few feet.

Otherwise what’s to stop dirt from working its way through the flaps and into the rocks where it can clog up the pipe?

sooo the question i keep seeing and hearing is... is the Fabric absolutely required? what is the benefit? i guess my thinking is that yes the fabric is thin enough forwater to get through but wouldn't you want it to be faster draining without the fabric? and would it still be needed if you buy perforated piping with a filter sock?

I am wondering about the drains function though. So the water drains into the rocks and then what? how does it get into the pipe other than via the turf drain thing? Does the rock only serve as weight and compact? When the water exits the drain, does it go into the main sewer or is it just moving the water? Are there drains on the bottom of the PVC? I guess ive never really learned about these drains until now needing one in my house lol.

What is a French drain? A beefy version of perforated corrugated black pipe? When and where would a French drain be essential? Do they collapse?

How thick should the layer of dirt/turf over the rocks . I see u say trench is about 18-24 inches deep but how deep is the top soil

Grass growing over grate, is due to lack maintenance, and this so called “ restrict or plate” only allows the owner to be even more lazier than they usually are.

The grass would grow right over that in Florida. I know your trying to hock your product to us but there is no reason grass will not grow over that
