Ha nr1 is my biggest issue.. bogged down with so much theory and wanting to understand everything and days of practicing scales and arpeggios but not not learning enough standards!

You made some very good points Marc. I can especially identify with #1. I spent WAY too much time grieving over theory, scales and chords which soured me out on moving forward. I would go back to playing Rock and Country music which I mainly learned how to play by ear learning songs. Not by learning theory, scales and chords. Yes you need to learn those things, but you do not have to learn all about them before learning songs.

Just to say, I am not a performer and have no ambitions to be a performer. None. I am a musician and strive daily to be a better musician. For me it is all about discovery and enjoying the music and the process. It has nothing whatsoever to do with impressing other people or playing or engaging with other players. There are lots of others like me.

I doubt most musicians or music lovers who play at intermediate or advanced levels would buy an expensive instrument thinking it would make them play and sound better.... If anything, they would buy one or 2 expensive instruments for a lifetime instead of 10 + that they end up selling or not playing at all. If they are touring musicians than it’s a different story i guess.
