Can A Plugin Really Sound Better Than An Amp? Ft. Neural DSP (Archetype Cory Wong)

Can the Neural DSP Archetype Cory Wong Plugin really sound better than my Supro Thunderbolt tube amp and pedalboard?! My home recording set up is okay but no where near enough to truly match the sound quality from the plugin! With a better microphone and some editing I'm sure I could get the amp to sound closer! But honesty is key on this channel!!

Let me know what you think! Thanks for the support!

You can't really compare them as they are two different things, which means that one is not better than the other. They are just different, i think it's easier to pull of a really good living room sound with plug ins, than a loud tube amp, while on the other hand a loud amp sound better on stage than a plug in.

Been a tube guy for a long time, always said tube amps the way to go till I tried the Cory wong free trial. I got into a decent interface and with headphones on I get a good cranked tone without waking anyone up or having nabours at the door. The plug-in has some excellent sounds for the price of what some pedals come for. Just got the plug-in today as decided to buy! Excellent bang for buck. I’d always use a tube amp for live or recording but for practising and jamming to tracks this is amazing.

Awesome man as always! Should have asked me to borrow the Mesa so you could go stereo out! Can’t wait for what’s next

A plugin captures the amp but not the movement of air from the cab that's part of the pleasure. For that extra tubeness you could put a real and cheap tubebooster like behringer's Tube Monster VT999 in front of the chain. That will beef every plugin up.

Real amp man. Real amp man.
The thing is Software is cool and is shown everywhere. But I allways played tube amps and somebody that says software amps are better eighter is selling them or never played a real amp. For demos and stuff it’s cool but I still prefer micing up my amp over vsts.
Software amps don’t have attack nor do they push air and they don’t have dynamics.
