My younger brother always loved playing this game on Super Nintendo & even when it got re-released to Game Boy Advance.

It was 1 of his favorites on both consoles.

We both grew up on the Super Nintendo version & we spent some time during childhood to play it together & that lasted for hours.

Sadly, late Tuesday night of last week, my younger brother lost his battle with stomach & esophageal cancer that he had for months.

Anytime I play this game, I will always think of my younger brother, how he loved playing this game & the fun we had playing it together.

He also loved Super Nintendo games such as Mario Paint & Mortal Kombat II.

I think you were spot on with regard to the cape. If you're just interested in beating the game with minimum fuss, then sure, fly through a level and reach the goal, but really the fun of this game is exploring the levels and seeing the crazy platforming concoctions that they come up with at Nintendo. One of my favourite things to do in Super Mario World was to try and find all the Dragon coins in a level. While there was no bonus for doing so, it just felt really satisfying, like I'd fully explored and experienced everything the level had for me.

I can still remember the first time I saw an SNES on display at Kmart playing Super Mario World. It absolutely blew me away. It was love at first sight

I’ll never forget how amazing this looked and sounded at the ToysRus demo console when it was new. Even the memory of demoing the game brings back fond memories.

This really is the best and most well aged Mario game imo. I love this more exactly for the reasons you said.

Especially the freedom to play as u want without the constant threat of death...

I always went back and forth between my NES & SNES playing both Super Mario 3, and Super Mario World back when the SNES had just come out, but then Mario All-Stars came out and man was it awesome playing Mario 3 on my SNES, not just because it was convenient, but the remastered visuals & sound made it feel like a full blown SNES release rather than just a remake.

I remember as a kid when I got this game playing it on my dads big TV, the scrolling backgrounds made the games feel so big and wide open. Keep in mind I was use to playing NES games that had relatively flat backgrounds and stages. In SMW their was a sense of depth beyond the foreground that put me right in the game, much like how 3D games today make you feel like your in it.

The best Mario games for me are equally split between this and Mario 3.

Watching this video when it was put up on YouTube 8 years ago and hearing him say the game was "20 years old" then just hits in the gut harder today.

The hell? This game was hard as balls and I beat it when I was 25. Who the hell would ever call this game easy? Crazy....

This is why i love your channel! You review from the most popular and obvious to the most unheard of. And you dont assume we already know the game just in case. Upmost respect to you sir!

I dont think there is 96 levels but 96 diffrent exits. Some stages have more than 1 exit, like Donut plains 2 that level has two.
Otherwise a very good review.
