In the US, as of 2011 this method is no longer code compliant because it leaves no neutral in either switch box. A neutral is required in at least one of the switch boxes, to allow for the future installation of electronic switching devices requiring power in stand-by mode. You'll typically come across this method in homes built before the 1980s.

How does this method satisfy rule 4-022 2) in the CEC? There is a new requirement since 2018s version that there be an identified conductor (neutral) left at each location of a manual or automatic control device.

In this configuration, can you tap into the incoming hot and neutral wires for continuous power to other light fixtures and still have the switching work correctly? Thanks.
