My favourite film of the 'Monsterverse' so far

Definitely a good, fun movie and possibly my favourite of the newer 'monster' movies. A great cast of known names that works well together and seeing Kong is always wonderful.

Loved it. I'd agree on the Skullcrawlers' lack of variety, but it certainly wasn't a deal-breaker. So, on to KoTM - brace yourself...

Saw this at the cinema and really enjoyed it. Incidentally I love John C Reilly in general, such a fun presence. I like this more than the Godzilla films to be honest, this seems a bit surer of its tone.

Looking back at it, I hadn't actually noticed the lack of a love-based subplot; I appreciate the fact that it went unnoticed without detracting from the film's enjoyment, which proved a major point!

One problem with having the native civilization find a way off of the island was that freaking huge storm that surrounds it...which I can't remember if they ever explained...

The WW2 guys could have started worshipping Kong without the natives being there. It'd be a very small Cult of Kong. Also, that'd be a way to keep the Japanese guy alive and as an actual character.

Having one of the natives learn English from Hank actually would've been quite interesting, because he was last 'in the world' so to speak in the 1940's, which means any slang the native would've learnt would be 30 years out of date. Oh, and the native could've learnt Japanese as well. And could've mentioned that he or she found Japanese slightly more of a challenge than English.

It's such a fun movie, and with the trailer for Godzilla vs Kong, I started watching all the Godzilla films and boy, 60's sci fi bullshit is so fun

Are you going to review Godzilla 2014, too? Cause my OCD mind feels incomplete when I see someone miss a movie from a certain franchise. Plus, I think it's an underrated movie in it's own right. I think it gets a lot of flak for Godzilla having very little screen time, but that gets fixed in the sequel.

His character in this reminded me so much of the Indiana Joneses and Alan Quatermains of my childhood, minus the superfluous, pointless romance angle....

Peter Jackson's Kong movie scarred me. (I had have not seen any of the original Kong movies, so I don't know if this part was in that, or Jackson just made it up) Those giant insects, particularly the spiders. Just no. So creeped out. It kinda turned me off of Kong movies because I now associate Kong with that. Glad you liked this version though.

It's so funny that I haven't watched Kong Skull Island or Godzilla: King of the Monsters either. Only yesterday watched Kong, preparing to watch King of the Monsters this afternoon.

I agree with your sentiments regarding the locals. It would have flowed much better, I think, if instead it has just been lots of ruins, the knowledge that people had been there and couldn't survive. Closer to a value add.

I liked it. John C Reilly makes enough references to be from a different time but not too much to get annoying.

Is this movie amazing and ground breaking? No. Does it have quite a few flaws? Yes. Could it have more original monster designs? Yes. Is it a so fun and just enjoying itself? Yes. It knows it’s a fun apocalypse now monster movie hybrid and owns it. I think it’s by far the best of the monsterverse movies because it’s got good fun human characters and enough medium monster action to been good to watch but not needless (both my problems with the retrospective Godzilla movies) but yeah. 6/10 quality but enjoyable.

Feeling so gullible that I'm fond of this movie, but yeah. It kind of works for what it is. Get them struggle with the monsters on the island.
