the vocoder tipped me over the edge. i bought one. I'm in love with it!

its such a wonderful upgrade in every way from the original, it solves all of the problems I've had with the original. It really ties my traditional instrument and electronic setups together! I'm keeping the og1 since i've had it for almost 10 years (mostly letting my friends and family use it since im not worried about the tape now), but now its time to try not looking crazy to my girlfriend when im talking to the synth for the vocoder now haha

This is just SO good and yet still, I'm not running out to buy one.
Don''t get me wrong, I love this little thing, but it frustrates me knowing that EVERYTHING it's capable of, the iPad Pro could do.
I get it, wrapping it up in a cute well thought out solidly built unit like this gets it's unique selling point but carrying around more devices than I need just bugs the hell out of me.
The day Teenage Engineering wrap this up in an app, even a subscription! Dudes, take my money.

You need to look into the hype mic by Apogee. Has its own A.D. converters, preamp, and built-in analog compressor. It’s small, comes with a really nice carrying case, has a headphone input, and USB. If it tells you anything, I have a Neumann TLM 49 with a UA 710 preamp, and I use the hype mic more than anything now. It’s perfect for travel, way more diverse than the Neumann and sounds amazing. 11:48

I posted a quick vocoder track to my channel the day the update hit, was having so much fun with it. I'll use it way more than on the microfreak, just because of the sort of device the OP-1 Field is. Loved your explanations and I've gotta sort a different headset - in the end I used the built in mic with my sennheiser in ear earphones, since the Apple Earpods as you say didn't sound great microphone wise and the level was too low. I think i'm gonna have to go down that radio rabbit hole though :) Anyway thanks for the great content, as always :)

Did you also tested do modify the Vocoded Voice with the "Element" LFO (which is of course no LFO) and choosed there the "Mic Input"? That could be interesting.
And did you tested the M-1 headset from TE? - wonder if they were also a candidate to test; because I think of getting them.
Also: nice video, goog graphics and good structure.

For the price, I think I will stick with my software Vocoder for iPad, and the built-in Vocoder for Logic Pro X (the whole DAW and all the sound packs is cheaper than the OP-1). If the OP-1 was available for €300 I would consider purchasing one.

Very nice video and demonstration. Regarding the way you have setup your OP-1 to the iPad, I understand that you can record OP-1 within the iPad, apply effects and then reroute it to OP-1 through usb audio without feedback loop? Is using a hub necessary or can it work directly with usb c? I have already tried but there is too much risk of feedback loop each time and lot of mute/unmute to do. Your technique looks perfect
