Won’t work, that will still cause mildew because the foam underneath the carpet is still soaked. You would have to remove the carpet flooring and maybe even the seats to properly handle this.

had the same problem with my golf 4. The problem was the water outlet hole at the base of the windshield, left and right, they were blocked with dry leaves. After I unblocked it, there was never water on the floor

You need to take the door panel off and reseal the foam insulator, it's probably not sealed correctly
