"I don't wanna hurt his feelings, but I want to embarrass his whole family" - Forever Giant Brandon Belt on facing Webb. Well the Jays certainly did that tonight in the first inning. Bounce back tomorrow.

Lots of good stuff in this game! Obviously, the string of hits with RISP has been the biggest struggle, and busting it open early was great. However, big credits to the bullpen in holding it all together today. Half the problem with the Jays has been all on the players underperforming, and they overcame that tonight.

I do still want to notice some other points of interest I saw and considerations. I know they were up early, but that shot of Vladdy and Berrios dancing together in the dugout? Jays NEED a lot more of that stuff. Look at basically all the other shots of the dugout: the coaches, Schneider, and still most of the other players are just kinda standing around and staring blankly. In my opinion, this team is going to thrive and break through in the second half, but only if they enjoy fun again. I think it's time to bring back a homerun celebration of any kind, we stopped hitting homers almost entirely. It's time to just do goofy things like dance in the dugout, do weird handshakes, be all huggy and whatnot. Get those guys sitting in there who are waiting to pitch or bat in a great mood, instead of festering in a pit of stoic stagnation or sadness.

I'll give credit where due and I think Schneider today managed the bullpen day pretty well, and he got nice and personable in taking Richards out after 3. There wasn't any frustration, no transactional air about it, it appeared to be rather amicable. I really think he needs to get in more and just be that guy who can make decent decisions, but also be approachable for the team. Yesterday was the first time in a long time I saw players going up to him at all, when Springer was describing Rogers' funky delivery and Merrifield also was discussing something with him. More of that, and less of what appeared to be the players just sort of dragging themselves out there and not wanting to play on Schneider's schedule. If we're stuck with him, they need to see him as a cornerstone and not a stopgap.

So yes, some small good signs of interactions yesterday and today, could use a lot more. Yesterday's game had some truly abysmal umpire strike calls, and Schneider just sat there in the dugout the whole game, letting everyone take those calls. No willingness to fight and stand up for his batters. Obviously you don't want to be ejected, but leaving the players out to risk voicing their displeasure with the calls just kinda screams that he'd prefer one of them be potentially punished over himself. Even when we score big runs and/or win, I don't see him even smiling. Imagine getting a clutch hit or HR, then returning to the dugout to go through the gauntlet of high-fives where you're basically the only one smiling. I'd love to have Schneider just start giving happier praise, and showing the other players they can still have fun.

Even Springer a few days ago was making goofy gestures at Kirk in the dugout and Kirk just deadeye'd him and looked completely empty. Kirk's a quiet dude, but he can definitely smile. I worry about that quote Schneider said about "not being serious enough" and removing the HR jacket to focus on being a serious team this year. We tried it, and at the halfway point, we're EXACTLY the same record as last year. What's the harm in trying to get the club to play with more enthusiasm and joy? Don't we all do our work better when we enjoy it? The players will come around and even out I think, but that little tiny trivial piece of being a happier team, I think that can really kick us into the second half this team can really be. I wish the best.

Trevor Richards has a master key later in the starting rotation. Brandon Belt has balls, pun intended. I like these guys

Everybody has a bad day even our ace. Shake it off Logan. We go again tomorrow. Can’t give up 7 hits 5 runs in the first just can’t have that happen, we’ll bounce back.

A few doubles in the first inning were partially due to Conforto limping around right field. He wasn't right after catching that Chapman fly.

So sad the Giants lost this game. Let’s hope we win the series at least. I knew Blue Jays we’re trying their hardest since they got shutout yesterday. Let’s try harder tomorrow Giants.
