Have you ever considered delivering Amazon parcels to earn yourself some extra cash? In this video I share my experiences of driving on the Amazon Flex program here in the UK.

I was initially excited about doing some driving for Amazon and thought it would be an easy way top make some extra holiday cash! It was not what I expected.

With Amazon Flex, you deliver parcels with your own car at times that suit you - you can choose to deliver as little or as often as you like. All you need is a smartphone, a valid UK driver's licence and to be 18 or older. When you sign-up and apply via the app, you will be guided through the registration process before selecting where you want to deliver.

Everyone has a mixed experience, sometimes you finish early sometimes you run a bit over. On my first shift I turned up and they told me they had no parcels for me... was dissapointed until they told me that I will still get paid for my block. Went for a 15min drive and came back with £50. Not a bad days work. Most shifts are quite good though as long as you are well organised and it is only really worth it if you get a boosted shift £16-20 per hour.

Amazon flex is great I think. I know that at the start when you don’t have a clue what’s going on it is very stressful, but once you get the hang of things and how to sort your parcels out in your car with each of the different parcel types then it gets much much easier and you finish your blocks a lot earlier. I deliver from the same depot that you got this block from and I’d say it’s only worth it if you can get blocks from depots that are no longer than 15-20mins from your home

I found with Flex - the most important thing is when loading your vehicle, to have a marker pen and write the door number on the package so it stands out. Then you pack the envelopes together, the book folders, the polybags and the boxes. 45 is a typical amount to have. Then at a delivery you can see what type of package it is and with the door numbers easily visible you can find your package much faster. This is the biggest time saver. At least you get paid by the block rather than per 'delivered' parcel. I've done 3 hour slots in 2 hours and 3.5 in 2.5 hours so it is possible to blast through. Also being familiar with the app over time helps. The hardest thing I find, is that as soon as the job offers arrive, they are gone within 5 seconds so sometimes quite hard to get anything. Good luck if you are still doing it, because it does actually get easier.

Great video. I had a few days multi drop experience years ago now and was looking to see if Amazon flex would be alright for a bit of extra cash. Think your experience reminds me of a lot. Think I will give it a miss!😂 many thanks

Sounds quite similar to some parcel delivery I did via the Ryde app for Royal Mail, stressful and exhausting. I made good money per hour though as it was new years eve and they were closing in the afternoon but I was paid to work till dinnertime 😂

Sorry Simon - I couldn’t help but feel you are too old to understand the simplicity of the flex process. The app doesn’t deliver them for you so you need a little common sense. You seem to have spent the whole time feeling sorry for yourself instead using your initiative to get those parcels delivered.

listening to this review was pure torture...
if Simon had a 'bad time doing Flex'...
maybe write out what you're going to say, and then just read off the page. get your thoughts together, man...

This job seems like a breeze, I'm 53 and work 8 hours lifting 15 - 20 kg boxes from pallets for minimum wage and I'm in pain everyday I'm thinking this is a good job for me.

I've done amazon flex before in the past and i have to say it is exhausting and time consuming. If you're trying gasoline vehicle, in my opinion is a waste of time.

2.5 hours, you're "knackered, " and need a lunch break ...try ten hours straight, no lunch, and 200+ stops LOL.

Your experience sounds just like my first block, i have learned a lot since then and it really is much easier now and i rarely go over the block time unless there is heavy traffic and often finish early even with farms and flats in the mix. The biggest time saver is leaving the parcel on the doorstep and taking a photo if the occupant is clearly at home like you mentioned, also re-routing the drops to suit you can literally save you so much time. All that being said i only do it for the extra cash each week on top of my full time job and i still see it as punishment :)

I'm considering this job, but after watching this movie I have doubts. I'm still wondering if it's easy to settle this tax? Do you know anything about this?

It is a job. I find the job becomes easier if I have the right attitude. To keep me in the right head space I look at it this way: I am visiting people taking them stuff and delivering smiles. A 3 hour block can easily become a 5 hour job even if you finish on time. Looking on the app for work is work for example, 1/2 hour of scrolling through the app looking for a block is work. Getting to the pickup station is work. Getting home or to your next gig after you complete your block is work. All of that time can add up to a 3 hour block taking up to 4 to 4.5 hours. Slow down to move fast.

Somebody else calculated the hourly rate as £13 per hour after tax and taxable mileage allowance. For the same rate you can drive for Royal Mail on a paid hourly wage and a union on your side.

This is the quick and dirty rideshare vs package delivery is...packages are quiet, dont vomit, pee, poop or try and kill you, but you have to deliver them when you arrive. Passengers will do all the horrible things above but they also, make you laugh, tip you and they deliver themselves when you arrive.
