Star Trek: Earth Spacedock

The Earth Spacedock is probably one of my favourite models used in Star Trek. It made its début in the film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. The footage filmed was then reused for the The Next Generation episode "11001001", although the model stood in for Starbase 74. The same footage continued to be recycled as Lya Station Alpha, Starbase 84, and Starbase 133.

For reference purposes, I have compiled all of its appearances in the Star Trek films. Design credits go to David Carson and Nilo Rodis at Industrial Light & Magic. All copyright to Paramount Pictures. This is a fair use video.

Even with all the phaser damage, the Enterprise is a beautiful lady...

31 years have passed since that film was made and the effects still look amazing.

You know, Chekov is really versatile, Navigator, Acting Science Officer, Officer, Communications officer, Security. The man really did it all.

James Horner's music still gives me shivers and goosebumps when I hear it.

If that majestic musical score doesn't stir you then you're already dead.

The most epic scene of backing out of a garage ever. This is why cinematic film scores are so important.

"The more they overthink the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain, " one of my favorites.

The musical score and sounds for this movie were so good, maybe the best of any Star Trek film. What does everyone else think. I think it's brilliant.

This was why we went to the movies, to laugh, cry and sit in awe!
Has stood up well compared to all the (now dated) CGI which saturated everything.

Models, Models nothing beats good models.

I think Shatners acting is great here. The way he conveys sarcasm always cracks me up. This movie may not be the best but the cast did a great job.

I was watching the 1st showing of ST IV: The Voyage Home at the theater. At the end when the Enterprise -A showed up the audience went ballistic!!! I loved it on ST VI: The Undiscovered Country how she got so banged up but kicked ass at the end. Star Trek forever!

In all these years it has never ceased to fill my heart with joy at seeing the original crew leave space dock! Im 59 and watched all of the films and the original series. Im glad that these video excerpts are here on YouTube for the sake of all posterity, warp speed Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, Deforest Kelly, James Doohen, Majel Barret.

The woman shaking her head is former Yeoman Janice Rand who served with Kirk during the original 5 year mission TOS.

This just shows the pure genius and magic that the original cast were able to use on us mere mortals, i still cry as the Enterprise" slides in and the girl stands up with that shocked expression on her face as she notices the damage done to the ship, timeless and so heartwrending, i love "Star Trek" and always will.

I totally agree that the Earth Space Dock is one of the coolest things ever created in any sci-fi franchise!  I used to wonder what it would be like to live and work in one of these structures.   I think that is part of the reason I love STAR TREK ONLINE. Because after all the years of wanting to visit inside one of these, I am finally able to walk around INSIDE Earth Space Dock!  It's great to be able to check out the different sections and offices, to get to see and interact with tons of people working in Earth Space Dock, the great views looking out the big windows, and don't forget about Club 47 up on deck 47 -- if your PC has good speakers Club 47 is a great place to just sit and relax after a hard days work and just listen to the music.  Being able to finally visit Earth Space Dock is like a dream come true for a Trek fan.  Your video reminds me how much I have always wanted a big door-sized poster of Earth Space Dock for my wall.

The look of pure pride on Scotty’s face when Enterprise bolts out of Space dock on 1/4 impulse power in ST VI is absolutely priceless!
