After her dance career ended, Benefield’s interest in politics, led her to accept an invitation to join Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign as a staffer. In that role, Benefield attended a fundraiser at retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson’s home, where she met Doug Benefield, a businessman and former Navy flight officer who was 30 years her senior. I just finished watching the documentary and I don’t buy her story one bit. She is acting and making up a whole story to paint herself like a victim when the real victim was Doug but of course he is not here anymore to tell his truth. She is manipulative and clearly mentally unfit to be a mom. Too many things don’t add up in her statements. Also the way she was responding to the host questions, she would often not look at her while answering. She is just a compulsive liar. She didn’t come off as genuine at all on the stand, her faked cried because no tears came out of her eyes. I hope she gets sentenced and goes to jail and have Doug’s parents have custody of Emerson.

A mid 50s old man with a first wife found dead under questionable circumstances, he admitted in text to a terrified mid 20s girl (referring to himself in third person) "Ashely please talk to me. The other person in your letter is the person who entered the unknown world of step kids and daughter" which was an admission to his violent behavior recounted in the letter that Ashley wrote him when she left him, and where she referred to his violent manipulative behavior, in that text he admits the letter as true, but he was not responsible, it was "the other side of him". He was stalking her, she made it clear in her letter to end their relationship, he accepted what she wrote and then started using God to ask for forgiveness, typical behavior of abusers. Ashley run away to FL, terrified of this old man who at home pulled a gun and shot to the ceiling to terrorize that girl, think about that, a old man in his 50s, in his house, in his town pulling a his gun to a mid 20s girl, alone in that environment, that is what an abuser does, isolates and controls. Never letting her go, and getting even more manipulative as he found out she was engaged, MOVING TO FL. . . for sure Ashley was terrified, she knew that his switch to "loving husband lets move to MD and start anew" would have been the end of her, she would have ended being found dead of "natural" causes somewhere in MD.
