From my experience with Tesla phantom braking appears usually due to poor gps signal in specific areas.
And I saw 2 scenarios:
-when you are on a highway and crossing/getting near another road can take the speed limit from the other road and break to that limit. This can be avoided by setting the autopilot to not break based on speed limits.
-when you are near another vehicle (usually trucks) he thinks that you will hit the other car due to misleading gps data.

Phantom breaking is a real issue with Tesla’s. It has only gotten worse lately. The adaptive cruise is totally unusable now.

As someone had already said. I have 2022 LR model 3 that I bought used. I lived in the U.S. When I first bought the car, phantom braking was a scary thing. I had very low confidence in it and I was often "paranoid" about it. Currently, I hardly ever experience it and when I do, it is usually very minimal.

The phantom breaking happens more often when the car reacts to the speed limit to a road overhead or to the side (mainly close to overpasses). If you change the settings to not react to the speed limit, but just the set speed, it happens 90% less. Hopefully though there will be an update to fix this.

An impressive result. My car uses ~23kWh/100km at this speed!
Tesla sets a good standard when it comes to energy consumption, I hope the rest of the manufacturers catch up with them soon.

Good news for folks in Europe. Phantom breaking is thing of the past in US. Hopefully they can launch same software in Europe soon. It’s not a radar issue. It’s old software due to Europe regulations

Looks like it is taking the speed from the slip roads leaving the highway

At 13:28, you consumed 47% of battery by making 196km so you would make 196/0.47 = 417km from a single charge. but the battery consumption on the screen shown that 157Wh/km from usable battery 76kWh, 76/(157/1000) = 484km that doesn't make sense

I assume this is the vision only problem. Why cant They use radar as others to verify What it see

Interesting results. My 2017 Model S currently takes reproducable 155Wh/km @120km/h (160 according to teslalogger which is connected via SmT to the dongle in my car) on Austrian and German Autobahn, it is equipped with a set of Hankook Ion Evo summer tires. My summer consumption since May (around 6500km).

Thanks for this test. Maybe you have already addressed this issue, but shouldn't you divide your chart at least in two categories, let's call them summer and winter ? This test for example was made under optimal conditions (20 c° & dry roads, no wind). I see on you chart that some other tests are done under négative temperatures and on wet roads. Can such values be comparable? To give an example, the Huyndai Ioniq 6, the BMW i4, the Polestar 2 and the older version of the Tesla Model 3 have similar range and consumption, especially if the 3 models have the same wheel size. Yet on your chart they are quite far apart, especially the i4 that was tested in winter conditions on wet roads.

I test drove the Highland for an 1 hour, had 1 heavy phantom braking on the highway, then the car refused to let me take an exit by counter steering violently. I had my blinker, there was nothing on the right lane. I ended the test drive terrified.

Could the car be reacting to numbers on road signs?

I could never use Autopilot when my wife was in the car, as she would freak out every time the car would suddenly brake, or do some weird steering when the road markings where unclear.

Good test! Unfortunately phantom breaking is still an issue, even with the new refreshed Model 3. And also the windshield wipers are not working as intended (not reacting enough in heavy rain, reacting to much an drizzle or almost no rain) due to using windshield cameras instead of a dedicated rain sensor that works perfectly even on budget Dacia brand. I own a 2022 Model 3 LR, in Romania. Despite these two technical annoyances I am happy with the car, is efficient and overall best car I owned.

Same in my 2021 M3. A co-worker has a 2023 MY that also does the same thing. It's been getting worse for the point that I now miss good old dumb cruise control because the sudden slow-downs are annoying, . embarassing and/or dangerous. There's no doubt the AP/TACC we get in Europe now is barely being maintained and it's just really bad now. Just one more reason my next car won't be a Tesla.

Nobody except Tesla engineers know how it really works but for sure, there are different types of phantom braking. One is the car just getting the speed limit wrong (had these in a VW too, but no where near as frequent). The other is where it for no apparent reason gets confused and slows down. And a third is where it thinks it's about to crash (these have actually improved greatly with tesla vision, with radar they were really bad on single-file Norwegian roads, especially in turns). Funny thing is there are a few such confuse-spots along my regular commute route where the car has been doing the same slowdowns with 100% accuracy ever since I got it. It's never getting fixed, but for these spots I know they're coming so I can just pre-emptively disengage AP.. Really annoying.

With the radar still active I had noticed the most phantom breaking issues when driving under bridges even on an empty road. Now radar is gone or in my case deactivated, it seems to have problems approaching bigger bridges. If you watch the situations in your video, It does not seem to be the trucks, whatever color, but bridges that appear big and could be recognized as road blocking objects. It's just guessing, though. I also wonder, that passibg these situations so many times by Tesla vehicles, it should learn sonehow.

I have the same problem with fantom breaking with my tm 3 lr 2021.

For me, Phantom braking means buy or No buy, is this feature standard equipment or in an additional package?
