LOST TREASURE: John Lennon Sings 'Let It Be'

Using A.I. extraction software, an inspired rendition of "Let It Be" - sung by John Lennon and recorded on January 25, 1969 - has been uncovered. Recorded in fits and starts, John's guitar and vocals were isolated, then remixed and edited together for a more complete performance of the song.

In the nineteen seventies, 150 hours of Beatles rehearsal tapes, recorded for the 1970 "Let It Be" documentary, were stolen and leaked onto the black market. Thirty years later, they were recovered by British and Dutch police during an intercontinental sting dubbed "Operation Acetone." In 2021, some of these recordings were used for the Beatles' "Get Back" docuseries. However, most of the tapes, which contain a goldmine of unreleased original Beatles music, remain on the cutting room floor.

I wish I could go back in time and find whoever it was that decided that there should always be cameras filming and/or tapes rolling whenever the Beatles sat in studios together. THAT person was a genius, and I owe them so much.

Watching Get Back I noticed how John and Paul sought each others approval. One would crack a joke and then look at the other for a giggly response. They were still really kids in many ways. I cannot easily put my finger on why The Beatles were so special, but they definitely were.

I am 71 years old. I grew up with the Beatles. When I listened to the music of the Beatles I feel connected. I am listening to old friends sharing some of the deepest thoughts, experiences and feelings. A fan forever!

John’s voice had a unique sound unlike any other rock or pop singer, he could transmit emotion through his voice like no other rock singer ever to this day. Paul’s voice was beautiful and melodic. John’s voice was pure Soul and magic

John singing a McCartney's song is the highest praise coming from him.

On the 9th of December 1980, a Beatles tribute act was booked to play in a local dance venue and we went and saw them (we had planned to go weeks before). The night was down but good, they were brilliant, covering most of the Beatles career in 3 acts (Cavern - 4 Sale / Rubber Soul - Mystery Tour / White album - Abbey Road) with a long encore as the band didnt want to stop playing. The Encore was the guys basically in street clothes doing songs from the solo careers after they split (so we got Photograph, My Sweet Lord, Imagine, Junior's Farm etc). For the final song of the night, they said they were going to do something different and the guy who had played John Lennon, sat at the piano and then the band did Let it Be with Lennon on vocals. The band ended up in tears, as did the crowd. Everyone stopped dancing and just stood and listened and thought about what had happened the day before. It was an emotional way to end a gig ... I knew the drummer in the band and he told me years later that it was the only night that they ended the show that way. It was special.

A rare gesture of friendship hidden in the folds of a lost recording, just present enough to be extracted and proven and shown. So much poetry in that.

The Beatles are the only band that I have ever had a fascination for that goes further than their music.
I've been listening and watching footage of them for 40 years now.

You know who was a huge Paul McCartney fan? None other than John Lennon. He'd stated it numerous times. Coming Up got John back in the studio to give us Double Fantasy. Even years later, they were still inspiring each other.

I wanna hear Johns version of Oh Darling! He said it himself that he wanted to sing that song because it fit his voice. THAT would be priceless!!

I truly had a visceral reaction hearing John sing this all-time classic from his bandmate and close friend, Paul McCartney. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment in Beatles history. Just amazing!

the Beatles, their lives, their story, their relationship and their art, is one of the greatest stories of the twentieth century

That really was beautiful. John's voice is so emotive, I sometimes wonder if Paul's songs would come across differently if John had sung them. Here we see the answer is yes for at least one song. I love them both of course, and even lean Paul, but man, John exuded soul.

I think the "imperfections "make John's voice straight up beautiful I love every tone John uses he seemed to have a carefree sounding voice Man Let It Be whatever comes out it's alright

Goosebumps. John puts so much feeling into it. Beautiful commentary. The context really adds to the beauty of the performance. I bet this would blow Paul's mind.

In my teens I was a total Beatlemaniac (still am). John was always my favorite.
