Geographically speaking, Europe too is within Asia since it sits on the same tectonic plate as both East and South East Asia, same can be said for the majority of Middle East.

In the past, EU thought they were different based on language, culture and phenotype. But based on those factors, it would make Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, EA/SEA all their own continents. It's quite eurocentric and that's why the usage of the word "asian" phenitypically makes much more sense than the geographical usage.

Genetically, both EA and SEA are closely genetically similar/related to each other while being distinct from the rest. South Asia is much more genetically related to Middle Easterners and Europeans, but I'm refering mostly to Desi's. There are exceptions like North East indians who account for only 3.5% of India's population.

Recently due to the admiration that many people have towards EA, they want to associate themselves with those who are phenotypically EA due to fetish and obsession.
