I joined the Stake and checked out the website. The design is appealing and there are many stocks and etfs to choose from indeed. One downside is that if you are planning to deposit small amount regularly like $100 per fortnight, it's not for you. Just like wire transfer, if you deposit $50, you will lose 40% as commission, if you deposit $2500, you lose 2% commission. So it will shine if you deposit large somes less frequently.

Looks like stake has a lot of potential for speculators, thanks Henk. I saw on money hub you live in chch, not a bad place to be (if you're not in a rest home).

I signed up but then realised you need to add funds within 24 hours before you get a free stock. The minimum fund accepted is $50nz but they only accept using POLi.



*Rant warning*
I would not recommend using POLi, this service is not officially connected to our banks, it simply takes your account details and then logs into your bank pretending to be you!! They have complete access to your bank account. The only thing POLi does is save you copy pasting a bank number, reference and amount. All this at the cost of privacy and security!

hmm for students Stake is okay but depositing a small amount of money is not good. I might just wait for Sharesies and see which one is better for me. What I like about Stake is they have an app and the news under each companies.

hey im new to online trading (also from NZ) and im wondering how tax works when I buy and sell stocks. for instance everytime I sell a stock do I get taxed and do I only get taxed on the gain or loss I made or is is the whole price? if you could make a video or respond here would really help
