love that mom! She did her research, knew what she wanted, and stood up for herself

I have noticed over the last few years that the doctors I work for have been practicing delayed cord clamping. I love they so easily adopted the practice.

Being able to speak up in that moment when you are exhausted, in pain, vulnerable, and almost completely out of it shows great planning and such strong will. great job

It's really important to have this discussion before this point. Just because the cord isn't cut, doesn't mean it isn't clamped already. If the cord was already clamped ( which usually happens as soon as baby is born), delaying the cut is pointless. I doubt the cord wasn't clamped already because they already noted the placenta was releasing. Let your dr know you want delayed cord clamping, not a delayed cord cutting and do it as soon as you start pushing or write it in your birth plan and make sure it's read by the staff. I was a L&D nurse for many years and it's second nature for most Dr's to clamped quickly so speak up.

Now that’s a well-informed mama! I wish more patients felt empowered or were aware to ask this.

Hospitals never like it when you have a birth plan and choose to speak up. Thank you for showing this.

My fiancé waited. He did his research and told the doctors to give it a few minutes and they all were happy and so was I. They said that’s perfect. He’s a GREAT father. Parenting is HARD but. Loving

The look she gave like “fucking TRY arguing with me on this.” Mom knows what she wants and advocated those desires. Amazing ❤

Make sure you have a birth plan!! My midwife helped me with mine and it was definitely followed, so insist on one

As a woman in my 30s, I learn new things about pregnancy and birth ALL THE TIME. Why are women not properly educated on all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth.

The silence pissed me off so bad, they act like your personal preferences are a hindrance or burden on them. Your job is to help me with ALL OF MY PERSONALIZED NEEDS !

My son is 24. I wish I had known about this back then. This is one reason why the internet has helped us, definitely a positive. There are also many negatives to the internet in our lives today but access to helpful information is a real blessing.

I was very pleased to hear that my hospital supported no bathing of newborn, immediate skin to skin, delayed cord clamping and baby not leaving my room at all! Especially since I was an emergency transfer from a birthing center where I was trying to have an unmedicated water birth. The midwives apparently worked close with the hospital and the new director was very open minded about adopting more holistic practices. It made me very happy ♥️

I love this. I did the same and ladies if you are not great at standing your ground make sure your husband is aware of what you want and is willing to back you up on this if hes not bring a second person who is willing to stand for you. My husband has always been my support! Even in the weirdest stuff i do such as when i very last minute decided i wanted to keep my placenta. Literally during labor decided this never talked to him about it. Just said i wanted to and he said "bet i got you" 😂. You need this kinda support.

According to recommendations, you're advised to wait for 1-5 mins to cut the cord, to increase the blood stores of the newborn
However, you're required to cut it early, if the baby has any heart disease or risk of it, to prevent overload

I love the side eye she gave the nurse... I also made them wait to cut mines for the 2nd time. I didn't know the 1st time. We did skin to skin while we waited.... We have to be our own advocates even in these vulnerable times, surrounded by "caretakers"

We delayed the clamping to, might of saved my daughters life as she was only 3lbs bless her. In the NICU for 2 weeks she was. Now she’s a rambunctious toddler
