Walt is right. He would not have gone to Saul. But, Saul is probably the only competent lawyer who would've done the job no matter what. This is Walt's loss for not believing in Saul. Like Jimmy said in the end, Walter White would not have made it without him.

I like how Walt left just because he felt inferior to the other two being relatively rich but when telling the story he puts himself as the victim

I love how throughout the course of the show Walt’s story about Grey Matter changes a little bit each time as he further descends into his egotistical self absorbed madness.

It's interesting how seeing Walter from the view point of Saul shows just how much of an egomaniac he was. He was absolutely convinced he was the victim in every situation.

Obviously this was all written after breaking bad, but it's kinda perfect. Walt is so self involved and disinterested in the people around him other than how he can use them to achieve what he wants, that he had no idea who Saul really was, and how incredible he actually was as a lawyer - even when he was working within the confines of the law.

The contrast between Walt telling this story to Jesse and to Saul later is really interesting. He words it very differently between the two
