How to Improvise over the Autumn Leaves on Tenor Sax

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video we take a deep dive into all of the chords for the classic jazz standard “Autumn Leaves”. We look at all of the chords, making sure we understand each one and the relationship they have with each other. Wow, that sounds heavy! But it isn’t, its beautiful and fun and I carefully and clearly explain not only the chords but exactly how I’m making a (hopefully) lovely solo over the entire tune. I’m aiming to explain things in a way that everyone gets so please do let me know what you think.

Is there content you'd like to see? Just ask me and I'll do my best to help.

Thank you Lynden for all the extra work in putting the notes you are playing on the screen. It makes life so much easier for the listener.

Your method of explaining the theory is so easy to follow. Thank you for taking your valuable time to make these videos for all of us.

Great video thanks. Your use of the harmonic minor scale plus 9th works really well over one of my favourite songs, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise. Apart from the bridge, it is repeated minor 2-5-1s in C-7I play tenor so D-7 for me. The harmonic minor scale with the 9th is beautiful and for Softly it’s basically 3/4 of the entire song. Gracias from Mexico.

As good as the previous one. I don't know other youtube teacher taking time to do both versions on dedicated videos. Thanks ❤

You're a genius... simple as that. Your superpower is not being pompous about posh approaches and keeping it dead simple for muggles. Never change ...

Dude, you might be a great teacher and all, and I will watch again to try and decifer, having never played a sax and hoping to play someday, but man oh man, the sound you were producing got me mesmerized. This is the first time I've heard you, and I'm going to look for more of your playing! Thank you

Super explanation Lynden; thank you very much from Germany...
Please keep going analysing simple Jazz standards for intermediate players (and early improvisers).
You could add a comment, that the provided cord chard (C Major for Bb instrument) is deviating from the RealBook (A Major for Bb instrument); probably for making it more easy.
A further enhancement could be. to include some tips about typical phrases in the original melody, we could use as is or in a slightly modified way.
Again thank you and cheers.
