i met and fell in love with a equine therapy horse. he was a Percheron and his name was doc he didn't get along with most patients because he had intense trauma from his previous "owner" the day he and I met for our first session he refused to let anyone or other horses get too close to me. he would nuzzle up close and let me walk him around his pen. i got to feed him and just talked to him. my stress completely melted away when I was with doc. he was a true gentle giant <3

You’ve missed out some notable UK breeds - the Clydesdale, the Shire, the Suffolk Punch - to name a few.

You know what is really, really annoying? Using perspective to make animals look way, way bigger than they actually are.

A friend of my dad's had Clydesdales. Huge, fun, love to please, playful, much like a herd of big dogs. They had an antique milk wagon they would take in parades and fairs. Really beautiful. We picked blackberries on the edge of the field and they would all come running to see what we were doing, making the earth shake. They had an old cadillac that they played king of the hill on. You control them only because they allow you to.

I loved the video. I have met the Percheron named "Goliath" and the Belgian named "Radar." Each were Guinness Record Holders for Tallest Living Horse at one point. Both are buried withing three miles of where I live. Although Radar was a little taller, Goliath looked like a Gladiator. These giants can't be appreciated unless you walk up to them in person.

I’ll always favor the black Percheron. Had a 6-horse hitch for many years, they hold some of my fondest memories. My hitch geldings once walked home with me NO HARNESS OF ANY KIND, after finding their hitch positions, driving them home on my verbal commands only from the rear. I had a halter on the right wheel horse, walked between the two wheel horses. These clowns got out in the middle of the night and “momma” had to go get them. I was never so gratified in my life.

Best horse I ever rode was half Percheron half Appaloosa. Comfortable, gorgeous trot and could jump anything.

You ignored the Scottish Clydesdale - commonly regarded as the second-largest breed. Also the English Shire.

I've both driven and ridden percherons, belians and belgian heavy draft as well as occasionally using them for heavy work. Although I very much prefer arabians I've enjoyed all three of the draft breeds I've had the pleasure of working with. Percherons are my favorite of the three, probably because my grandfather owned several of them when I was growing up.

The Brabançons and the Ardennais horses are ideal to work to pull logs out of forests, where machines would be useless. They are much appreciated by their owners due to their strength and endurance and quiet character. Today, I learned that Big Jake died two weeks ago at the age of 20.

I use to volunteer for a horse rescue farm in my early 20s.. They had this 1 horse his name is/was Diego.. His momma was a Belgian and his daddy was an Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale.. They gave him to the Rescue farm because he was "mean".. He wasn't tho.. He was huge bigger than the Belgian.. He was a big love bug to the right people.. But he LOVED me.. When he'd see my car coming down the road he'd be in the front pasture waiting.. I'd spend hours riding him and brushing him.. I would of adopted him if I had a place to put him.. One day I went out and he was gone 😭😭.. He had been adopted.. I never went back after that.. He was beautiful.. Midnight black with midnight blue eyes.. I LOVED how his "walk" was like a standard horses trot, and his "trot" was a standard horses run, and his "run" was idk how to describe his run.. Fast.. Lol.. I will have a horse like Diego some day..

Some 10 years ago my own horse was living at a facility where one of the other horse owners had one of those Belgian draft horses. His hooves were the size of big dinner plates...He was absolutely massive. This (at that time, not very well-mannered) horse broke through a sturdy wooden fence with little to no effort. He just ran straight through! actually he destroyed several fences on the property....I've never seen such a powerful horse O__O
