Our Moon is moving farther away from the Earth.
I just fact checked: around 3.8 cm per year. It doesn't matter since the Sun will wipe both of us before the Moon can leave our orbit. Till death do us part, I guess 😬

When you say earth is getting a mini moon, does that mean it gets caught in our gravity well and has its orbit altered from a hyperbolic one to an elliptical one by the real moon’s gravity assist and that it would leave the orbit bc of another gravity assist?
Or is this just an asteroid passing close by?

This actually happens fairly often including the S-IVB booster from Apollo 12, which was ejected from earth orbit in 1969 and was temporarily captured again in 2003.
