Daniel Barenboim - On My New Piano - Domenico Scarlatti (Trailer)

Barenboim was inspired to create a new piano after playing Franz Liszt’s restored grand piano during a trip to Siena in September 2011. Struck by the vital differences in sound of an instrument constructed with straight, parallel strings rather than the diagonal crossed ones of a contemporary instrument, he set out to create a brand new instrument that combines the best of the old and the new and offers a real alternative for pianists and music-lovers in the 21st century.

From this recording I'd say this is the finest piano in existence! The sheer depth and breadth are extraordinary!

Yas, I just fell in love with Scarlatti last year... this is perfect! But why only three? That is like 15 minutes...

After listening to Barenboims record of this instrument. It really convinced me that this instrument has opened a new dimension in piano music and piano building. In Liszt transcriptions of Wagner the bass comes to life like I never heard before.

Maestro, I have been listening to your new album, "On My New Piano" and it is (as always) absolutely fantastic. The recording sounds wonderful, too; this will definitely be in heavy rotation for quite a while. :) Cheers.

Der Klang dieses Instruments erinnert mich sehr an meinen eigenen Steinway von 1925! So hell, klar und offen!
Schön, dass man den "alten" Klang aus der goldenen Zeit wieder schätzt!

Thank you, Maestro. Scarlatti one of my favorites. The modern piano of course has great versatility which allows the artist to execute music of different eras challenging the pianist to alter his physical attack, the importance of different muscles. Which kind of piano do you favor? Surely different pianos favor specific types, approaches. I do love German pianos, Grotrian among them, the Bosendorfer of course . Japanese pianos? Thank you Maestro for all that you share with us. Bravo. I heard you at Carnegie almost fifty years ago. Never forgot that.

The notes above describe a Chris Maene straight-strung instrument, but the piano he's playing is a Steinway.

A true virtuoso! I was fortunate to be a member of the Halle Choir in the late sixties (can't recall the exact date) when Daniel conducted Beethoven's Choral Symphony and Choral Fantasy... a wonderful experience!

Great one Daniel, you picked the most well-known sonatas of the 555. As Bach said, "Singt nicht längst bekannte Lieder!"... Oh well, Scott Ross will never go out of business.

Ahah. I knew the third one! It's used in the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto grade Level 9. Just with two measures, I can tell it sounds very different from what I thought. This is useful.
