"The Wii cannot play DVDs"

In opposition to all of these points
1.) As you said, no online data saving was to prevent cheating so they couldn’t have added it anyway.
2.) The (earlier) Wii *can* play DVDs with a little Homebrew and originally was supposed to normally, and the functionality is built into the (earlier) Wii. Nintendo just didn’t want to pay to use the feature on every console produced.
3.) I don’t know WHAT you do with your Wiis, but I’ve handled mine like a normal person for years and there hasn’t been a scratch.

Fun fact, I dropped my wii off of my dresser one time, this was a 5 foot drop...

Unless you have a soft modded wii, it is possible to play DVD format by installing a media player for the wii without mod chip

By 2006 you could waltz into any walmart and buy a dvd player. The fact that it could do netflix, was a much bigger deal.

In the wii files it was found a dvd image on disc channel but it was removed from the final version

My Wii fell from 9 feet twice and was under water in a house flood. It still works perfectly and doesn't look damaged at all.

I've seen more broken 360s than I did Wii's. The only thing I've really ever seen with the wii's are the gamecube lid always broke off and after awhile it just didn't read disks

The Wii actually can play DVDs, but Nintendo disabled the feature due to having to a pay manufacture fee in order to include the functional, similarly to Microsoft and Sony.

If you jailbreak your Wii, you can use WiiMC to play DVDs on it.

Fun fact: the wii was originally intended to play dvds, the problem was that if they did such a thing, a percentage of every wii sale would go to the producer of the dvd (Philips).

fun fact: the beta wii menu had a dvd icon and when you clicked on the channel it said 'insert game disk or DVD'

DVDs were initially going to be added but due to licensing issues, aka Adobe requiring money, the DVD feature was removed.

Fragile, I had one since I was born and I broke almost everything I had, yet my wii and it’s remotes were perfectly fine

My wii broke about 3 or 4 years in, my gamecube is about to turn 20 and its still going strong.

Cannot play DVDs but it had a Netflix app, back then was our family Netflix player
