Convert VHS Tapes to Digital - On a Budget!

Need to convert some old VHS tapes, but don't want to break the bank? Or even really involve the bank at all? Here's a walkthrough for converting as many tapes as you need to, on a shoestring budget!

This was a good simple cheap guide. It’s hard NOT to go further for myself especially with deinterlacing which will be the main strategy to get higher quality.

You can’t resize it to those resolutions because they were using a pixel aspect ratio. So pal resolution is 720x576 BUT to achieve 4:3 aspect on monitor, have to use different resolution

I have enquired bout Commercial conversion services and from the ones I have asked, the service they offer is just the absolute fastest dirtiest method that they can turnover. Average customer doesn’t even know why deinterlacing is so they just do what is most profitable. So it yourself is best!!!

Can you recommend a scart to USB converter? Searching online I can find loads of Scart to HDMI but struggling to find scart to USB.

I have a scart to hdmi converter. So if i plug a hdmi to usb lead from that to the pc, it should work shouldnt it?

Is there a VHS sized adapter that you can record straight to digital. Or do I have to record it first then convert it?

S-Video would be better than SCART if it's available I think, as there's a chance that the SCART connection would be using composite video instead of S-Video and therefore you'd get poorer video quality.
Of course, with S-Video you need separate audio wires, but the video quality should be better than composite.
