'I will never rent again': Ontario landlord speaks out after property destroyed

Following protests outside the LTB office, Sudbury landlord says he won’t rent again after rental property returned with significant damage.

I feel so bad for him. It's awful to see this happen to an elder. I've rented for 15 years and we always leave it spotless and imagine the landlord entering all happy after we've gone. My last landlord even went out of his way to drop my last bits of mail to my new place. Mutual respect is so powerful.

Was a property manager for 8 years... I’ve seen worse, he got lucky. I would never rent to anyone, not family, not friends. The nightmares I’ve witnessed. Absolutely scarred for life. The law is always in the tenants favour, never the landlord. I hope by some miracle he manages to get some money back. I doubt it but hey Christmas is coming.

This happens all the time. My place was trashed last year and I spent thousands repairing it. The laws completely favour tenants which makes it very difficult to evict them even after they have destroyed the property. For those thinking of renting out your property, think again. It's not for the faint hearted!

That’s exactly why I stopped being a landlord. I had over $7000 damage and 4 months of unpaid rent. Absolutely disgusting and destructive slobs.

Been there, suffered that. The landlord/tenant board is useless. Small landlords are just suckers really, saving the government from having to build more geared to income housing, and suffering the consequences. Poor guy, I feel for him.
