There should be at least a one inch gap/air space between bubble wrap and exterior walls. It’s twice as effective when it’s the shiny silver foil to reflect the heat. It’s more time consuming but worth it. No air gap will cause condensation leading to mold and mildew. HVAC GUY

Here's a tip that may help you on really hot days. When we had our mobile home we would hose it down on really hot days. All that aluminum soaks up the heat. When you cool it down with the water it does help a bit for a period of time.

I worked Security about 20 years ago at a walmart distribution center that was being built and they used the silver and white bubble wrap stuff for insulating the walls of their buildings. I remember there were scraps of it blowing all over the place and one morning on my way home I saw a couple of pieces across the highway from our site (it had actually blown across the ditch, a lane of traffic on the highway, a median and another traffic lane so I stopped and picked them up. I still can't believe how far those pieces got (and stayed together at that) the only thing I can figure is maybe someone picked them up on the other side of the highway and threw them in the back of their truck and when they crossed the bridge to get to the other side they came. I think about that quite often because after 20 years, I STILL have those pieces in the top triangle windows of my modular home. Yes, 20 years ago they were put there to keep in the heat/cool and help insulate that dead space (because all these old modular homes have the thin single pane glass) and we gotta do all we can to insulate. I have seen this bubble wrap stuff in rolls at Lowes, and have seriously considered getting some. But what I would do for walls, is use it as you did AND add a couple of layers of actual bubble wrap (the packing stuff but with the large bubbles) and then drywall, etc... it's something about the air layer that helps. I have done this on my windows in the winter. My duct work is ripped up, underneath my home from animals so I haven't used my heater and propane in several years now, so in the winter, I get some big bubble wrap line the windows with it and then put on the silver bubble insulation and then a thin blanket etc, and then the blinds or curtains. And it would also work in the summer to keep it cool.

I got. Two ac units one is 15, 000 and my other one in the back I got a 12, 000 so it’s nice and cool in the house, I couldn’t breath if I didn’t have it cos of my allergies! Buy you a second one in the winter time cos then they are dirt cheap! Good luck and take care 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

Hi Marty, I want to do bubble foil in my tiny house so thanks so much for sharing this . See you on the next one

Definitely worth it to have it on there! Temperature in that trailer would be brutal without it and your little a/c unit would be less effective

You’re lucky it’s hot there; I’m in Washington (state), and it has rained most of the day. It’s only 57 degrees! I would love to have some of your heat! Wait, that didn’t sound quite like I intended!! 🤣🤣 Good grief, people are gonna question the purpose of this channel!! 🤣🤣

I use it to block the heat coming through windows! It definitely works!

Henry’s makes a heat reflective paint Calle Tropicool. I’ve heard good things about it.

I built a 8x24 tiny home inside of a polebarn use bubblewrap between the metal siding and my wall framing then used regular pink rolled insulation 2x4 walls 2x6 ceiling I use one single oil filled 120 volt Radiator style heater and a 5000btu ac and is enough to heat and cool in Central tn to 65F year round

I used it in mobile home and it helped keep in the cool and lower my electric. I am in a house now and even thinking of doing it on the windows in my home.

What about the cold temperatures
What is the performance in negative temperatures

nazar-ulislam

if you put the foil on the inside stud the air gap will make a way bigger difference

Does this product work to keep the cold out.

It would be interesting to conduct an experiment to see a temperature difference. Paint a small square on the outside wall with heat resistant paint. Then construct a small panel of bubble radiant barrier and attach it 1 inch away from the hot surface (create a shade, but it would have an air gap). Then measure your outside wall, painted spot, then behind the radiant barrier shaded spot. Then you can test for good insulators, like styrofoam, etc. Probably the best would aerogel, either paint or a blanket.

Infrared thermometer doesn't work correctly on bare aluminium

So you can use bubble foil instead of insulation?

It's to close to the metal. If it were attached to the studs and not the wall I bet it would be much cooler.

Ther is a video somewhere, that saying it's only 3% heat blead true the foil, that's very effective.
And 160°F = 72°C that's hot and then inside only 106°F = 42°C that's 86°F = 30°C less, that's awesome.
