I would suggest only buying the Deck in India if you know someone in US/Europe who can get it for you at MRP. I got my 256GB version for 43k (base 64GB one is even cheaper at 33k). Much better value for money at those prices. Import prices are 🤯

As a long time Linux gamer/user, the one thing I'd advise to anyone thinking about getting the Steam Deck, get apps directly from either the Discover store, or the Steam marketplace. Although, there aren't any major bugs or viruses for Linux targeting desktop usages, its a good time to follow the "good practices" of downloading applications, i.e, downloading directly from the source, something which most users do follow on Android or iOS by using app stores, but absolutely break the rules while using Windows by downloading through shady sites.
Also, don't expect most multiplayer games to function out of the box, Valorant, Destiny 2, CoD MW2 etc on Steam OS. Dual Boot into Windows to play them, since these games do not support playing on Linux.
