Do you prefer to pay as you go or the peace of mind that comes with an all-inclusive package?

I believe the value of the package goes well beyond the math behind each drink consumed.
It's not a true vacation for me if i have to keep asking myself if i want to spend money on that next drink.

I also did a similar breakdown but also included the gratuities, bottle waters, and juices at the Vitality Spa.

As others have mentioned here, there is absolutely some added value to the freedom of not having to worry about the bar tab at the end of the cruise. If you only drink beers it's much harder to hit the value. If you do mixed drinks, red bull & premium coffees It adds up pretty quickly. So even if it's close, the value add is worth the cost. Once on board you'll find out that since you have the drink package, you will have a few extras here and there. Was on Wonder a few months ago and had 64 drinks across the 7 day cruise. Not all alcohol by any means but the math still worked out. Also the port days can mean even more drinks on the package if those port days are CoCo Key or Labadee since those Royal owned destinations are part of the package. So sitting by the beach have 5 cocktails @ $14 each has already covered the daily amount. The upcoming Perfect Day Mexico should be the same situation.

Great detail and logic. The days at port and sea is an excellent point! Thanks for the video.

I drink 2 coffees before breakfast, another 1 during ( at home I have a cappuccino maker so that's what I have out. Morning tea another 1 or 2. That's just before lunch! I love the deluxe drink package because from good coffee to mocktails, cocktails and my scotch nightcap I don't have add them up and hope I'm not going over budget. And I can experiment with drinks and not feel I'm wasting money.

Don't forget that "Port Days" if they include Coco Key and/or Labadee your drink package works. Also bottled waters were not included in this scenario. If you do not purchase the package you are paying 18% gratuity per drink. Basically if you think your close to these amounts get the package, and it's a stress free vacation. If you far below these amounts it would behoove you to pay per drink.

Hubby and I drink quite a bit, and the expensive stuff too. We’ve calculated it on embarkation day for us, and it is definitely a smart financial decision for us most days. But the peace of mind by not having to think about it really makes it worth it.

I was also wondering if the price difference is more about the number of sea days/private island days vs port days on that particular itinerary.

Great video. Struggling with deciding on this. This is extremely eye opening.

Good job breaking this down. We drink wine, cocktails and sparkling water (lots of water), so the package is worth it for us when we cruise.

From prices I've seen longer cruises you can get lower prices than shorter cruises. Our best sale price on Quantum and Adventure on 10 & 12 night cruises was $48 per day without gratuity. Adding the gratuities made it $56 and some change. The 12 night has Coco Cay and only 2 other ports.

Whilst your video and several others from other posters are most helpful (thank you!), what it highlights more than anything is the complex nature of these packages. The fact that these videos have to be made tells its own tale and the complexity of the various packages is surely not by accident but to further obfuscate the actual total cost of these holidays without that being reflected in the base cost and to 'nickel and dime' the customer.

Get the drink package and live it up! Sean says I don’t drink….I can but I would end up being lost at sea so I choose not to be shark bait!

The drink package is pretty break even for me. I get it because if I get a bad drink, I shrug it off and get another. If I ask for a shot and it's tiny, I shrug it off and get another. I'm not counting the ice cubes in the glass. I'm not signing receipts for every drink. One comment about port days: If you're at a private island, the drink package works there.

Great video. I like how you break things down. Like you, I prefer beer. It’s too bad they don’t offer just a beer package.

Prices for our June cruise on Adventure ranged between $69.99 and $83.99. I check daily and only saw $69.99 for one week. The normal daily listing was $72.99.

Good video! Cruise lines (especially bartenders) apply high-pressure sales pitches to sell alcohol beverage packages because many cruisers lose money on these packages. These days cruise lines are emphasizing alleged "convenience." Gratuities are included (added into) the package price. Almost all of the better cocktails, the good wines, and all top shelf brands cost more than $12.00. These up charges add up! Many cruisers lose because after a long (often hot!) day in port they do not drink much alcohol after return to the ship.

Minor flaw in the calculation.. most cruise lines also charge extra for premium water bottles like Vita Water or a branded water bottle (not to mention Red Bull or other caffeinated beverage).. those are included in the drinks package.. I know i was going thru at least 3 to 5 of those a day so if you add those in.. based on your other calculations your savings just went up by about another 20.00 or slightly more. If you enjoy the premium waters (that would include sparkling waters as well).

Based on these numbers, the decision is easy. I like to drink when I cruise, but I rather pay as I go, it is way cheaper than these "drink package" products cruise lines try to sell.

The drink package covers up to the price of the standard cocktail. That price is now $15, and has been that way since at least the start of 2023. The drink package covers up to $15 drinks.
