iPad 9 in 2025: Is It Still Worth It?

The 2021 regular iPad, commonly referred to as the iPad 9, holds the title of being the last iPad with the iconic design featuring the classic home button. This device carries a lot of history in its appearance, which dates back to the first-generation iPad Air. I’ve been using the iPad 9 for quite some time, and today, I provide a thorough review of this device in 2025 to help you decide whether it’s still worth it.

Had this iPad since release and still works great. Keeping it a bit longer. May eventually get iPad mini 7 or iPad 11 but not right now. This iPad is enough for my needs.

Still using IPAD 9 after almost 4 years. Works w IpadOS 18.4. Center Stage works great on work Zoom meetings. Downside is the low storage 64 GB and RAM (3GB ).

My first iPad was Apple's basic iPad 4th generation with max specifications and, I much prefer this older classic style. I have been using a basic iPad 9th generation model for years with max specifications 256GB and the cell data option. Also, my basic iPad 9th generation is paired with a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard and case which, gives it the feel of a laptop computer. This week, Apple introduced a new basic iPad 11th generation model. So, I no longer recommend the iPad 9th generation for first time iPad users. However, for someone like me that prefers to use wired headphones, and already owns the Apple 1st generation pencil, lighting SD card reader adapter, and lighting USB camera adapter, this older basic iPad 9th generation meets all of my needs. (smile ... smile).

Newer iPads stiull dont have laminated screens. Only the more expensive ones. Not the entry level ones tho. So screen-wise there is no big improvement between the new entry level iPads and this one.

Another point to mention is that when used with external monitor displays, all the non-M-chip iPads are only capable of 'mirroring' the iPad display. They cannot use Stage Manager which extends your customized windows to either panel.
