Self Debarkation, LOVE IT. So much is closed on the ship, netting over the pools, there is nothing to do other than lounge in your room and get breakfast, so I like to just get off early. IE: I cruise 90% out of NYC/NJ so getting off early is a HUGE benefit in regards to avoiding traffic. When I cruise out of Florida, depending on my flight, I do not do self debarkation, I usually stay on the ship as long as possible simply because it is nicer than the airport.

We only ever do self debar kari on. My hubby carries two suitcases, I carry one. The kiddos carry their backpacks and we book it out of there. However it’s our least favorite day of the cruise. We just want to get off. They are busy cleaning he cruise for the next group. So we don’t want to stay longer Han we have to that last day. It’s just over.... so we want to get on the road to drive home. Love hearing everyone’s tips

What we did that morning was left our bags in our cabin and went to breakfast in the main dinning room. We took our time and waited until 11am to leave. by than most passengers were off the ship. and since our flights left at 8pm that night, it was stress free. The Carnival will allow you to stay on at least until 11:30am. Hope it helps

Good morning Mr and Mrs CTTV! Instead of being in the USVI I'm in Birmingham Al for a long weekend, LOL! My high school BFF needed some organizing help after knee surgery. We did self debarkation on our 1st cruise with friends. Hubby and I flew on buddy passes so we wanted first flight out of FLL back to Atlanta. Our last cruise this past December was a late flight so we didn't rush off. I seem to remember getting our luggage before customs and we cruised Princess. We used the luggage valet at the FLL airport so we did a little sightseeing in Ft Lauderdale. It was a fun day. Have a great weekend. ⚓⛴🎃

I'd love to see a vlog with tips on how to prepare for debarkation the day/night before. Or whenever you prepare for debarkation.

I thought we had to disembark by the time the documents say. (7 am) I am so happy knowing we can stay longer!!!!

The single studios on Norwegian are awesome. When I did my ship tour, they said they have special events just for the singles. I also found out that they have had several singles that have ended up getting married.

There was a time when you were lucky if you could find a muffin or cookie to eat on the last morning, and people waited everywhere- sitting on the staircases, standing in the hallways, just waiting (we’d get kicked out of the cabin early - which was awful when I was deathly ill with the Noro virus - and with that cruise, we had a post-cruise tour thru the cruise line & had to get on a bus)!!

Thanks for the information. Suitcases down 10 flights of stairs damn! This is making me think whether to self disembark. I love how excited you get and how down to earth and real.

In Florida you get your bags before Customs. In California you get them After Customs

@Kylie Garrett - we just got off the Carnival Vista Oct 15th and we stayed in our first cove balcony during that cruise. Our balcony experience consists of deck 7 & 9 balconies so far. My husband and I both LOVED the cove! You're so much closer to the water and we loved the sound of the waves. Cove balconies are more closed in than the open upper balconies though. The couple who traveled with us also loved their first experience with the cove but the wife said she missed being able to lie out in the sun on her balcony because the coves are shaded by the lifeboats overhead. On the positive side, I preferred the shade... especially after lying out around the pool. I also think our room stayed cooler than the higher balconies that take in more of the sun. So there are a couple of pros and cons to think about and what you prefer in a balcony. Personally, we're hooked and I think we'll mostly prefer the coves from now on.

When my parents did the Hawaii/South Pacific cruise, my Mom collected little baggies of sand from each port. She has them in little labeled bottles and the sand is different colors. It was a fun, cheap souvenir.

My family and I (party of 6) cruised back in 2013; Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas (I love that ship!! lol). My youngest daughter gathered some sand from Jamaica, upon returning to the ship, they wouldn't let her bring it on. At the time she was in Marine Biology and wanted to give the sand to her teacher.

I have several ribbons tied on my luggage- easy to spot in the cavernous baggage pickup area! And I’m usually with a group & we need a redcap to help us with our luggage (and since I’m in a wheelchair from the cruise line - we always have someone to help us)! More tipping!!
I did lock my luggage for departing a cruise & by the time I got home, I couldn’t find the key?? Used a hacksaw to open the lock (then found the key on my lawn - fell out of my pocket while walking up to my front door)!

My luggage is large, bright purple flowers... also, re: single supplement... I am going on a cruise BY MYSELF in April on Holland America and they did not charge me a large single supplement. I booked a regular balcony cabin, as well, not a single room...

Oh my goodness! It's actually called disembarkation, but everyone on the ship calls it debark for short!!!! I find it so funny to see this again!!!

Smart idea about Passport copies. I also have the small passport card (that I do carry with me)! I’ve only needed a passport in Alaska going up to the Yukon!!
