My father was a quartermaster in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He used to check German POWs out of the camps to set up warehouses. Most were conscripts who wanted nothing more than to go home to their families. He said that the French guards used to beat them just for fun. My Dad spoke German so he could converse with them. They worked hard and he rewarded them with a hot meals, beer, and cigarettes. Not Nazi fanatics just regular guys.

I know that the third reich (nazi germany) was bad but i cant help but feel bad for the soldiers that died in war like this, never to see their family again or the outcome of their sacrifice. What’s so sad is that despite what side you were fighting for, in the end you weren’t given a proper burial! So sad! We should really try our best to find out who they were and at the very least give them a memorial to be remembered!
