How Casey Neistat Uses a Song

SPECIAL THANKS TO THESE AWESOME CREATORS:

Casey Neistat is a YouTube megastar. He built himself a successful career from practically nothing, and he’s only gone upwards over time. From his breakout project iPod’s Dirty Secret to his debut TV show The Neistat Brothers, Casey has proven himself an incredibly talented filmmaker. His primary project over the last few years, the daily vlog, has been an incredibly journey from beginning to now. Casey puts insane amounts of effort into his videos from a production standpoint, and there’s a lot to be learned about filmmaking from the way he produces his videos. Casey founded the now defunct tech company Beme, briefly worked with Beme News and he is now focusing on his 368 project, which is intended to be a collaborative space and creative incubator for growing YouTubers. While he doesn’t upload daily anymore, he still makes sure he remains a prominent figure in the YouTube community.

Casey, if you’re watching this, hey! I’m from CT as well and I’m 18 years old. I have a great respect for your work ethic, and I would love to be involved with 368 in any way possible. Reach out to me on Twitter if you think I might have something to offer!

Whaaatttt? Casey asked Dyalla to remake "Travellin" for his video? This is unbelievable. I listen to Dyalla because of Casey and I know that Dyalla tried tens of times to collab with Casey but never thought that Casey was asking for customized music for his vlogs specifically and just thought that Dyalla created her own and Casey listened and picked what suited for his vlog!! This is an important detail that makes Casey vlogs stand out all the time. Thank you very much for the amazing enlightening video.

Before I even watch this video I have to mention that in the "my girlfriend candice" video the two songs he used at the end are forever stuck in my head because of it.

FINALLY SOMEONE EXPLAINED IT! I've been wondering his effortlessly creative works in every aspect, and his backsound just totally brilliant! THANKS

Great analysis, thank you!
I guess if we’re especially concerned about copyright when using classic songs, maybe it’s worth checking out public domain, even audio from films. If they’re not so well-known, they may still evoke some of the nostalgic feel.
The daily vlogs look like a new thing everyday, but how much prep does he do, like in the example given here where he requests a song ahead of time, presumably?

I realized this about 2 years ago when I made my own videos in homage to Casey’s style of filmmaking and the music was one of the largest things to tackle with those videos and while gathering them I basically realized an entire network of SoundCloud producers who do the same exact style/genre and how the interact and repost eachother yet the genre dosn’t even have a name aside from “Casey Neistat or Vlog music” this network of producers works similar to the Lofi hip hop scene on SoundCloud but it’s distinctive enough to be it’s own thing. Dyalla being the most recognized artist seems to be the centralized page to find this community and then you can see the branches of other producers she follows or reposts or like’s.
