Generation Iron Network has released a new official trailer for the upcoming documentary Bigorexia. You can watch the trailer above. The film will be available on digital October 16, 2020.

A psychiatric disorder is often seen as a bad thing. Something that needs to be overcome to maintain a healthy normal life. But does that hold true for muscle dysmorphia (more commonly known as bigorexia)? Is being unsatisfied withy our size and striving to become more muscular a bad thing? Or is it simply a level of motivation to break boundaries reserved for overachievers?

Bigorexia features Craig Golias, Zac Aynsley, Janae Kroc, Jeff McDonough, Amazonka, and Kirill Tereshin.

Bodybuilding, fitness, weight training - all on the Generation Iron Fitness Network!

I think we all have this to an extent.. I have days where I think 'Damn, I'm looking pretty damn muscular/vascular today..' and the next day I'll see myself in a different way, I think I look like I don't workout at all.. The more you care about how you look, the more your head messes with you (In my opinion).

Mental disorder is a strange and difficult thing to overcome. In high school I was 115lbs freshman year. I started to weight train sophomore year through senior year. I got up to 130 and this was a huge accomplishment. As I got older I continued to train, being an ectomorph I could only fluctuate between 135-140 even going into my late twenties. I've battled with depression since I was young. Being a scrawny kid never helped. I went to my doctor and was put on depression medications. None of these helped and made me feel, at times, worse. I found out later that I had low testosterone for my age. I am currently on a TRT to get my hormone levels to a normal range. Not only do I feel immensely better, my physique has improved as well. I think being able to feel better mentally, but also look in the mirror and not be ashamed of what I see has made a huge improvement in my overall physical and mental health. My point is, some people may take bigorexia to an extreme, but I think there is definitely a correlation to physical and mental health. Stay safe and stay healthy out there.

Bigger, stronger yeah? But faster don't think so

Edit: When Bruce Lee was bulking he noticed his speed and power was decreasing. Strength and Power are two different things

Bodybuilders aren't synthol users but this documentary isn't saying synthol users are Bodybuilders they are saying they have this psychological need to want to be big so bad that they aren't even gonna work for it. Synthol use isn't bodybuilding but it is "bigorexia".

Shit i suffer from that big time to the point I dont go out because I hate my body and I feel small, id put on a shirt and I never feel good, it actually has stopped me from doing many things like enjoying nights out with friends, family, and going on many dates with woman because I don't like the way I look, I feel small, and I train hard, I compete in bb ( stating that, to express how serious I take this sport and lifestyle) hopefully when I start taking gear, ( been training natty for few years now) but hopefully when I take gear i feel more confident and this goes away and I enjoy life 🙏

Just to try to add a thoughtful perspective...
There is no problem with wanting to be big, as there is no problem with wanting to lose weight and be slim.
The problem is if for psychological reasons, a person is unable to feel satisfaction and a sense of having reached his or her goal, because they always feel, that they need to do *more* . During the period when you *can* move forward it can be very useful/productive to be so driven, but at some point the human body is no longer capable of going further within a natural or sustainable frame.
It is when *this* point is reached, that the real problem arises, as the person will become desperate to see further development, and even if he/she is normally level-headed, reasonable and intelligent, the strong sense of frustration and agonising unhappiness may drive them beyond even that, which they *know* to be healthy, sustainable and rational.
Consider; a person with anorexia, for example, isn't considered ill while they are going through the double digits (of bodyfat), this is where everyone tells them, how good they look. It's when they plow through the single digits, reach the lowest possible percentage, and still keep cutting calories and hitting the treadmill for 4 hours at a time, that people start to worry.

I'll watch the video but already it seems to portray people that are looking to better them selves physically in a negative light

Is it really Bigorexia though? Or is it more of a Social acceptance, Online gratification thing? The Fitness Industry is still in the dark ages so ANYONE can walk right into it these days and make an OK living spewing out the same regurgitation of info since the Basics really don’t change. These people don’t have a problem, they don’t have anything wrong with them...They seem like marketing geniuses if anything.
