Workers in the public sector are expected to embark on countrywide pickets over wages.

This is following threats of strike action in rejection of the government's 3 percent wage offer. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana tabled a Medium-term Budget Policy Statement that accommodated a 3% increase in public wages.

This amid an impasse between public servants and the government over wages. Several unions including Cosatu's public sector unions and the PSA have slammed this, declaring a dispute with a threat to strike following another collapse in wage negotiations.

It's really painful 💔 and unfair to public workers. Why can't the government reduce tax instead?

They don't see that they robing themselves to pay their increases. Government never go out of what they had budgeted. They let you strike for a week and take the budget they had allocated for that week and give some of it as increase. At the end of the year you may end up earning less than what you could have earned if you agreed to maximum offer.
