It's a shame that the all-new Toyota bZ4X doesn't get better range, because it's actually a pretty nice place to spend time in.

I love my bz4x Limited. I’m getting 304 miles with nighttime driving and without climate control, which I don’t need where I’m at for my long distance driving. I’m not seeing what most of these video reviews are seeing in terms of limitations and I’ve been driving either hybrids, PHEV and/or BEV for almost 15 years. Yes, using climate control drops the range.. but I’m used to driving and even hypermiling and I always get the most of my battery in the way others don’t. So is it lack of engineering or a lack of BEV experience that leads to negative or less than favorable reviews? Who knows? It serves all my needs, some of which are pretty demanding; so, I’m “good”. Don’t regret the purchase at all.

We have the Subaru variant and I wish it had more EV information. But I suspect Toyota was trying to make it feel like a hybrid so it wouldn't scare off people as much as some other EV's do. In fact it is very much like our Rav4 Prime in that respect.

All the charging info is on Toyota app. And for the record I love my BZ4x. It’s a smooth ride and fun car to drive!

Seems like a classic case of pushing imperfect technology to the public and letting them be the test group. When people complain about any kind of issues, Toyota will then revise the car attempting to fix the issues they can and ignore the ones they can't.

65.5 kWh is the usable capacity, not total capacity. Also, the mi/kWh shown includes charging losses. When the software update is rolled out (expected in May), that efficiency value will increase since it will only display usage at the time of driving. The update will also include presentation of battery percentage available. Currently, you it is only available via the app. As for the impression of no charging information, that only comes on when charging begins. Wait for the green light, then check the screen.

Ive taken a few trips in my awd bZ and lemme tell you that it doesnt like being cold one bit but once it's warmed up (which if you're like me and only have level 1 will be achieved at your first DC charge but otherwise I think just an overnight level 2 charge topped off with preconditioning will warm it nicely) I have been seeing easily 3+ at highway speeds on interstates. From Tulare to Castro valley (205mi) I averaged 3.2 and 10mi left on the dash. I'm sure owners can/will figure out how to max it in given situations but there's little doubt that Toyota tuned it for SoCal.

I always set the adaptive cruise control on highways to shorter distance just because of people going around you then cutting over.

I am Toyota fan as well, but i will pass this car, bought Rav4 prime based on its range, long charging time and its price.

My test drive gave 160 miles. The manager said it was the worst he'd ever seen (it was cold) and tried to explain pre-conditioning (funny as I have an EV). Won't be buying as no better than my ID3 (which claims 260 and delivers 160 in winter).

Hey Charlie. I am Toyota/Honda guy. I would not buy the BZ4x or equivalent Subaru at this time. A 24 or 36 month lease seems to be move for now. To me, they seem half baked for EVs. The EV market is very fast paced. Toyota will do better with their next generation EVs. For now, their HEV or PHEV options seem like better options currently. 😊

Lol if this vehicle doesn’t like the cold, it should do well in AZ 🌵

Toyota's downfall is they think they know what consumers want. That worked with internal combustion engine cars where people just wanted a reliable engine but that doesn't work on the target market for EVs. EV buyers have a specific set of features they want. And pretty much all EVs are reliable as Toyota engine cars. Fewer parts that fail.

I heard the full range is actually like 140 and not 240 is this true? I’ve been wanting to get one

Lack of range and slow charging rate, that's why these cars are sitting on the dealer lot with people showing no interest.

I had one of these for a week and took it from Atlanta to Florida the ac EATS the range I wasn’t even getting 200miles with the ac on I ran the battery into the reserve so far out of all the ev I’ve driven it’s good just the efficiency was horrible

SavageGeese was absolutely right about this car. It's a lazy half effort from a company that doesn't like EVs and didn't want to make one, but they had to because they couldn't afford to be a complete non-entity in the market like Honda now is. The interior ergonomics are bizarre (this isn't a super car, PUT A GLOVE BOX IN IT) it's slow and inefficient at the same time. The only reason you'd buy this over an Ionic 5 or EV6 is if you're a Toyota diehard.

It's already outdated, and if you're buying this with the idea that it'll be like a Corolla that you can keep until the sun explodes, bad idea. Those batteries are gonna fail. They are batteries, and all batteries eventually fail, it's when, not if, and 15 or 20 years from now they won't make them anymore, and if you can get a replacement, it'll be twice what the car is worth at that point to replace them. With the rate the technology on these is advancing, five years from now this will be an absolute relic, in 10 or 15 it'll be like something out of the stone age.

Such poor efficiency. Expected more from Toyota
