What kinds of things do you think about before you buy? 🛍

During quarantine, I found myself shopping on Amazon way too much. A strategy that’s been working for me is, instead of putting the item in my cart, I put it on my wishlist. I hardly ever go looking through my wishlist and when I do, I find that I can delete a lot of the items because I’m no longer interested. I just thought I’d share this for anyone out there that may find this tip useful for themselves.

As someone still learning financial literacy I love that you go into detail about how to determine what to spend money on and what not to. 👏🏽

A tip I really value is to KNOW YOUR COLORS! Know your undertone, season etc. That way you buy clothing in the color that suits you and there's a much lower chance of it resting in the wardrobe most of the time.

Perfect timing thanks Christina. I try to not buy after 8 pm I’ve noticed I’m more impulsive when I’m tired. I’m 62 so I look for will I still love it in 20 years bc I have pieces I still love I’ve had 30 years (amid lots of regret purchases).

I cannot even explain to you with ANY WORDS how extremely grateful I am for you and this content. I am a “shopaholic” aka I have a pretty intense shopping addiction that I’ve developed as a response to trauma. Good stuff that I’ve figured out with my therapist 🤪✌🏼 I have made so much progress just by watching your videos and also the videos/book of Madeleine Olivia. You guys are amazing. Obviously doing real trauma work with my therapist as well but you have helped me so so so much. THANK YOU.

I think to myself…the reason I like it means I already probably have something similar (mostly with clothes/makeup, but sometimes decor). And so I can talk myself out of buying it since I already own something like it. I tell myself “it’s okay to like something and not buy it. I like a lot of things, but I don’t have to own them.”

The "cool down period" is the real deal. I've caught myself on the verge of impulse buying a number of times now; I especially get nervous when I see "Hurry! Almost sold out!".
But after analyzing my wardrobe multiple times and just staying off the website, I realized that those potential buys were regrets waiting to happen.
So, stepping away, forgetting about it for bit and then analyzing my wardrobe is definitely changing things for me.

I know this is my 3rd comment, but I have a scarcity complex, from being poor for so many years. I do have a college degree but I wanted to b home with my children. I was spending way too much money at the grocery store. Like hundreds of dollars a month. Me and my husband try to give a responsibility to whoever is the best at whatever it was. Due to the pandemic, my scarcity complex, impulse buying, buying more than we needed, not budgeting, I’ve turned the grocery shopping over to my husband. He doesn’t care if the kids want 4 different kinds of cereal or Debbie Cakes etc…he gets what we need. It’s taken the pressure off of me, especially bc I suffer from anxiety due to the trauma I endured in my first marriage. When I would see the prices on food just going up and up and up, I would get extremely anxious. My husband is relieved that I finally let him do the grocery shopping bc it’s saving us money now and it’s keeping us out of going deeper in debt.

cost per wear is so good :) was invited to a wedding and looked for a second hand dress as I will only wear it a few times. I get that some people want to look extra good at these occasion, but I even liked the second hand options better than what is currently in stores

To become better in mindful spending, I’ve (mostly) stopped browsing online clothes stores and unsubscribed from all their newsletters. And I some days before buying anything.

Oh I’m so guilty of waiting to wear the thing, I need to just get on and wear the things! If I like them I need to wear them even if it’s to the supermarket ;)

I like cost-per-wear as a starting concept but I think some types of items are just inherently going to be higher on that, like blazers or more delicate pieces you don't necessarily want to wear into the ground. Super important to think about subtle basics vs the more statement items as well

I feel like your videos are the only ones worth commenting on. As always, fantastic info. I always feel that I’m nourishing my life when I see your video. Your videos Tick so many “self-care” boxes in my life.

I love that cost per wear concept ! Never heard of it before. I did just but a pair of boots ... 40% off... that I’d wanted for years. I’ll def wear them often. Every day walking boots with jeans or dress. $96 & free shipping !! I walk & bus everywhere so good footwear is also my “car”. Congrats on paying off your student loans!! Mine are history now, too !! Yay !! Thx 4 this video. Liz

Christina, I just wanted to say thank you for your content. I found your videos a month ago, while I was trying to stop impulsive buying along with trying to find my personal style (and stop buying clothes I’d never wear, lol), and your videos really helped me. I de clutter my wardrobe a month ago and ended up with a beautiful color-pattern-shape palette that I didn’t realise was my whole vibe. I also used your Notion template and even created my own uniform wardrobe! Now I’m practising being more conscious with my spending and allowing myself to be patient and really think about my finance. Thank you!

I recently had a large jump in income. The hubs and I are working on getting our debt paid off quickly and we’re also meeting with a financial planner to make sure we have the ability to retire some day. Looking forward to being debt free like you!

It's helpful hearing about what you did while you were in debt. I'm in the thick of paying off student loans and it really affects my ability to spend money on literally anything else 😅

You know what’s funny about the waiting period. I try not to note down the item I want, nor take a photo of it or keep a screenshot, because I actually find that after a day or so I usually totally forget that I wanted the item in the first place! 😂 Definitely a want and not a need.
