Stephen King is one of the most popular writers of the modern era, but for several years he wrote under a secret pen name: Richard Bachman. This era of King's writing had several notable moments with one of King's most controversial books: "Rage" coming from this time. Professor Jelly explains why!

Great vid my man

Something I’ve always wondered - who is the guy in the picture in the author’s slip for the Bachman books?

Answered my question without a 15 minute introduction skit. Awesome!

I went to a Christian high school. We had to do a book report on any novel we wished, except that we had a black list with Steven King's name on it. I already knew that Bachman was King, so I did a book report on "Thinner" as a FU to the school, which I hated.

3:30 It's a misnomer that the all Bachman books were written with the intention of being published as Richard Bachman. The truth is, the earlier Bachman books were written before King invented the penname. Misery was written to be published as a Bachman book, but King was outed as Richard Bachman, so it was published as a Stephen King novel instead. Misery should read "Written as Richard Bachman".

3:45 King never stopped writing as Richard Bachman even after he was outed. He published Thinner, The Regulators and Blaze as Richard Bachman after he was outed. He may yet publish more Bachman books.

3:18 The Long Walk was King's first novel. He wrote it as a freshman at the University of Maine from age 18 to 19, from 1966 to 1967, but it was published Dec 1978. Technically he wrote a novel before that at age 13 called The Aftermath, but it was never published. King did make changes to The Long Walk before it published Dec 1978. There are many clues like mentions of John Travolta and Ron Howard who were not famous in 1967 but were famous in the late 70s. Travolta starred in the first Carrie movie in 1976. King also mentions the selling of the Panama Canal which happened in the 1977 so it was big news at the time King revised it. Hopefully the first version of The Long Walk still exists, so we can see why publishers rejected it. There are only 97 deaths but there should be 99, so it's possible King removed 2 of the more gruesome deaths to appease publishers.

I've read so many books and he was very long winded to get to the point! He mentioned about a character and then he takes forever to explain the character! The dark tower series is one of his best! I had the book 📚 of his most popular short stories and I like them better than his movies! Since I had my stroke I'm going to try his audio stories!

What if Stephen King is the pseudonym and it took over the body of Richard Bachman

King wanted to get caught. He purposely dropped clues in his Bachman books that he was King, for example in The Running Man, the guy passed through a city named Derry, which is a made up city that is featured in many of King's books. All of King's Kingisms and troupes are in the Bachman books. If you've read a lot of King, you might think that Richard Bachman is imitating Stephen King's writing.
