Yes, this was the last of the two (three?) big short-story collections King published. I'll miss that kind of book from him, but his later shorter collections are a lot of fun too! I read a lot of this in the early 1990s when I had a job driving produce out of an old warehouse and I read some of them sitting in my truck waiting around for customers, some of them at the warehouse again waiting around. Takes me back to think/read of them again! Love your video!

So it’s kind of funny to hear you talk about head down in your review here and I can understand why you would not like it based off of the fact that it is about baseball and if you don’t like baseball, it’s not the greatest story, but from my perspective, when I was in Little League, I was an alternate for our county All-Star team, and one of our pitchers broke his arm, and I got to take his place and I played in the Nebraska State tournament. And the way Stephen King wrote that story, to quote you, chefs kiss. It is literally my favorite one in the whole book. The way it portrays what it’s like to be on a little league state tourney, it brought back so many memories reading it. It was absolutely amazing so I guess what I’m trying to say is it’s all about perspective.

I recently read suffer the little children and absolutely loved it. I'll have to check out some of the other ones here in the collection of short stories. I also watched a little of the series that was made for TV years ago but never finished it and I forget why now. Anyway, I have spent an entire afternoon looking at this channel before and I love it! Look forward to your next video.

CHATTERY TEETH is my favorite as well? DEDICATION was absolutely fucked! I literally could NOT believe what I was reading. I need to revisit it I just finished House Of Leaves and It changed my life. Reading is the best thing on this toilet earth. 📚 🚽

Thanks for not mentioning Home Delivery, Dave. Possibly the most phoned-in piece he's written.

King dedicated this collection of stories to Thomas Williams, a writing instructor who taught for many years at the University of New Hampshire. Since the book's publication, King has singled out Williams' 1974 National Book Award-winning novel The Hair of Harold Roux as a favorite of his, and one he returns to "again and again."

The dedication reads:

In memory of
THOMAS WILLIAMS,
1926–1990:
poet, novelist, and
great American storyteller.

"Sorry, Right Number" was telecast as a season 4 episode of Tales from the Darkside in 1987 before it was published in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. "The Moving Finger" was adapted into a season 3 episode of Monsters in 1991. "Chattery Teeth" was adapted into a segment of the 1997 film Quicksilver Highway. "The Night Flier" and "Dolan's Cadillac" were both adapted into films of the same respective names, in 1997 and 2009, respectively. "Home Delivery" and "Rainy Season" were adapted into short films.
During the summer of 2006, TNT produced the eight-episode miniseries Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King. Despite the title, three of the eight stories were not culled from the book: "Battleground", from Night Shift (1978); and "The Road Virus Heads North" and "Autopsy Room Four", from Everything's Eventual (2002).

this is my first attempt at a stephen king short story collection and ive got to admit ive only read 10 of the stories so far and im a little underwhelmed. there are some highlights like The End of The Whole Mess and Suffer The Little Children but stories like the night flier, sneakers and (what ive read so far of) it grows on you just don't do it for me. i was excited when i heard that it grows on you was attached to needful things which ive just finished so i jumped right in but ive not even been able to get through the story yet.

thankfully im aware that the rest of his short story collections are generally considered much better and more consistent so im not off put from trying them, i just have to finish this chunk of a book first 😅

i will also admit that my attention has been slightly divided from this book as im also making my first trip to the dark tower (currently halfway through the wastelands) which im enjoying substantially more than nightmares and dreamscapes.

love the videos dude, keep up the great work, can't wait for more from you :)

Hey Dave, I am thinking of starting a booktube channel and I am wanting to do a “10 reasons to read” series of books but you have created the idea and I would like to take permission from you before I actually do it. It will only be 10 reasons and I will give you credit in the description. I will also tag your channel in the comments if you’d like. I love your channel but I just thought I’d ask before actually “stealing” the video idea. Thanks! :D

I hate to come in with the disagreement after such a long, day-one track record of agreement, but I despise his treatment of the Black character in#7. When I do my lecture about King and his Black characters, this one gets a particular kind of groan from the audience.

I hated this book. So many bad stories in one collection and some rare good ones.
