It's funny to see people bitching about this song's resemblance to Symphony of Destruction, unaware that each song in this whole album is an homage to classic metal songs...

OK people, if you actually paid attention to the interviews about the album they state that they wanted the new album to sound like older metal. This means war sounds like sad but true, the instrumentals not the lyrics. They wanted their writing style fused with the sound of classic metal. If you know anything about the band a lot of their work has been biblically influenced. Chapter 4, unholy confessions, the bands name for Christ sake, their first albums name. So on and so forth. This album is a little dark due to the fact they wanted to get the feel of classic metal with their writing style. If you all were "fans" you'd see that. As for this means war its the one song on all of their albums that are dedicated to the soilders. They are big supporters of the troops. Give the band the respect that they deserve. If you're gonna complain and bitch and moan about it I'd love to see you become as famous as they are and as talented as they are. Rant over. Goodnight

OMG I know why this album is called Hail to the King. It's a tribute to all of the metal greats, the kings, if you will.

Can we talk about how 2:51 sends chills down the spine? I swear Syn Gates has learned to speak with his guitar. How is there emotion in his guitar playing??

Wow, the way whoever wrote the lyrics (probably M Shadows) is able to communicate is beyond comprehension. A clear artistic and aesthetic communication. Unbelievable. I just saw the lyrics for the first time after listening to this song a lot last days and I was totally amazed. Respect to the whole A7X. And by the way, what a freaking Solo!

As someone else also said, this isn't Satanic, nor is it necessarily anti-Christian, it's metal, a genre that focuses on darkness and angst. And even if it was making a deliberate religious statement, I see it as a sarcastic counter to specific over-the-top Christian (or other mainstream religion) beliefs about everything being black and white, right or wrong, heaven and hell, when it isn't. Since the song named witches, take Wicca for example. Not every witch is Wiccan, and not every Wiccan is a witch, but they probably go hand-in-hand about 60-70% of the time. Now look up the "Wiccan Rede". Among the many morals and laws of that religion are laws to not harm others and to not cast magick on others without their permission except in emergencies (in Wicca, that spelling is correct; a way to differentiate from Harry Potter or stage magician type magic). Modern Druids no longer partake in animal sacrifice and abide by fairly similar morals. Joan of Arc was considered a heretic, but whose right was it to speak for her and say with any certainty that she did not hear and see the spirits she claimed came to her? Has anyone encountered a ghost? Does that encounter make you somehow tainted? Some religions, Christianity included, are only just beginning to accept things like homosexuality, but very few would take news of a modern Pagan in their presence well at all. Those extremely judgmental religions are making progress, but it's frustratingly slow. To reiterate, if this song is trying to make a religious statement, in my opinion it is not about Satanism, but about the worldwide acceptance of all that expansive gray area as a whole, for black is simply the darkest shade of gray, and white is merely the lightest shade of gray... and metal is metal.

This song heavily reminds me of the book/play known as the Crucible. The Crucible is about the Salem witch trials where due to the lies of the group of girls many were hung including people worthy of being called saints. The judges called them all mad when they were the true mad ones hence "mad men define what mad is" and despite the honesty of character of those accused they were put to death "honest man in chains but that don't matter anyway my judgment day" and the court case was completely fake "no trial no case for reason". In the end the true Heretics were the accusers and judges.

This is one of my favorite songs I've heard ever, compounded by who I am and what I've been through in life.

I see a lot of people saying this song is probably about the medieval ages and witch trials. While i do not disagree with this view i have a different view. I think the themes and motifs of this song can be applied to the present. "Mad men define what mad is, Turning witches and saints to ashes." People who are mad with power decide a lot of our government policies and laws today through lobbying and giving money to campaigns for their own benefit. The witches are people who don't follow the set social and political system and these people are often called crazy or "mad". Saints are people who try to change the system for the good of the people and they often find it hard to. There are more lyrics i could draw upon these are the ones that stick out most to me. Anyway, that's how i view this awesome song. I'd love to know some of y'alls opinions
