Hubble Time-Lapse of Fading Supernova in NGC 2525

This video shows a unique time-lapse of supernova 2018gv in galaxy NGC 2525, compressing a nearly one-year duration into a few seconds. The supernova is captured by Hubble in exquisite detail within this galaxy in the left portion of the frame. It appears as a very bright star located on the outer edge of the galaxy's spiral arms. This new and unique time-lapse of Hubble images shows the once bright supernova initially outshining the brightest stars in the galaxy, before fading into obscurity during the telescope's observations. This time-lapse consists of observations taken from February 2018 to February 2019. NGC 2525 is located nearly 70 million light-years from Earth.

You can see the area around it has a changed shade of color afterwards. And believe me... that is a big area if you realise the distances on scale.

This is your daily dose of internet. But yeah they caught that supernova pretty quick, props to NASA

What’s crazy is if this is actually 70 million years ago think about how the area is around it now. We’re watching something that happened in the past in the present.

How have I never seen this? This is amazing. A full on video instead of a song left image? This is perfect

Where that Star exploded, hundreds of species of beautiful Extinct Dinosaurs are still alive, happily roaming our planet.

It shows us that it might be a small world, but it is definitely a big universe.

Wouldn't that have blown when the dinosaurs still walked on the earth..? I honestly can't believe were only seeing it now. It really shows how big our galaxy is.

This supernova happened when dinosaurs roamed the earth just think if they looked through a telescope now they would see dinosaurs through it

Daily dose did a way better job of showcasing this. Was hoping for a full unedited version

Shame. DDOI showed it on a loop.
I was hoping it was still exploding. Something to look at.

Als het een mooi plaatje oplevert interesseer je je dus ook voor een beta-onderwerp.
