An f/1.8 lens with image stabilization in a small and light package! Could this Sony lens for Sony mirrorless cameras be a winner?

I actually like how the OSS works. It gives it a natural hand held look without it looking artificially stabilized . Great video as always!

I have the Sony A6300 and I was torn between Sony 35mm 1.8 and Sigma 30 1.4. I went with the Sony 35mm 1.8 after watching this video. I do 70% videowork and 30% Photography. OSS is really a must for the lack of IBIS on my A6300. Thanks mate!

I still love the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS for general purpose, portrait and video. I find it is soft wide open 1.8-2.2F stop, but I have no problem with adjusting to 2.8 in darker situations. I have the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for landscape and concerts, Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS, and the Sony 70-350mm G OSS for sports and wildlife..That trio is all I ever need for as long as the A6100 holds up...With more precision and taking your time, I really can get close to Full Frame results with Sony’s excellent APS-C sensors

Nice review! A review of the very well regarded (and cheaper) Sigma 30mm 1.4 dc dn lens would be a very welcome addition for comparison.

I own a6300 and 35mm became my kit lens since I bought it. Haven't put 16-50mm back for a while. Such a great lens for its price.

This is a special lens. If I had to go with one lens, this would be it on my a6000. it is fast enough and not too telephoto and not too wide, just right.

The sharpness comparison at different fstops was very helpful.

I can tell from my own experience that the 35mm 1.8 is a must have for videography! Using the lens every time in my new projects.

2:34 you say the AF is slow but that transition was beautiful and very smooth <3

I really appreciate your review of the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS lens. Very insightful! I hope your work doesn't keep you from continued reviews. The macro anomalies you mentioned might have me looking for another lens, though this will still have some other practicality to it. I'd be using it for photography, though, on a A6600. Great job!

After seeing your review, I decided NOT TO buy it, thank you for your honest review. And I am sorry to hear that your full time job it's getting so busy. I really enjoy your reviews, but hey, you need food at your table. Thank you again Christopher.
Update*** I bought it used at $260 on Ebay. I think it's impossible to get it at $200

I've had a mirrorless camera for a few years now and have finally decided to get some additional lenses. The camera came with the mediocre 16-50mm but I have just purchased the 50mm OSS F1.8...I'm now wondering if the 35mm is a better choice- it is about 180 quid more expensive....so either I keep the 16-50 for lanscapes/wide and the 50mm for street + portraits or ditch them both and get the 35mm all rounder and then just have to carry around 1 lens...(the 16-50 is tiny tho so no probs carrying that and the 50 with me)... thoughts?

Have you had a chance to use the Sigma 30mm f1.4? I'd be curious how it would compared to this lens.

You should give each lens a 0-10 rating in each category. Then at the end, you should add them all up for a final score. This point system will really allow us to compare each lens when we can’t figure out which one to buy.

i personally think the OSS is a huge difference when recording video handheld, those crazy stutters are gone which really bothers me

This lens was first introduced since the NEX era for the lower resolution sensors, its optical quality should be forgivable. Sony did not really have some masterpieces then nor in the previous generation.
