This clip is one of the reasons I love the character of Columbo. He is just so interesting, from his love of food, cooking, his dog, etc. to his ability to not like a man, yet respect him for his talent. Columbo is one of the best-written characters I've ever seen on television. Add in Peter Falk's acting, and you could swear Columbo is a real person.

There are so many great episodes of Columbo, but this one is the one I watch over and over. I just love it. The food appreciation, the bond he has with the server, the way the chefs rally around Columbo, the way he catches the killer...it's all so great.

Definitely one of the best Columbo episodes imo.
Gerard: "You're a very able man, Lieutenant. I respect that, but I really don't care for you very much."
Columbo: "You know, sir, I was thinking the same about you. I respect your talent, but I don't like anything else about you."

"Sorry Mr Gerard but I can't let you get away with it!" Columbo already knew he was the murderer and his palpable relief when Columbo says he was talking about the recipe not the murder said it all to Columbo. There were so many great Columbo episodes but this one of the best. If I were to be pinned down on what my favourite Columbo outing was I would still say it was the very first TV movie "Prescription Murder"

I love this episode because it is one of the few times that Columbo didn't hide his knowledge of and genuine appreciation for the subject at hand, in this case cuisine. Even the way Gerard and Columbo meet, with the killer entering the restaurant and the lieutenant casually waving him to approach, firmly establishes that Gerard is in Columbo's house now.

2:46 Columbo looks so adorable as he surveys the food and contentedly takes a bite

'I can't let you get away with it', followed by saying something totally irrelevant to the murder investigation, is such an excellent way of trolling the murderer !!

I genuinely hope they never try to reboot this with another actor.

I’ve been in a Columbo kick recently. I watched an interview with one of the creators and he pointed out something I never realized. He said that when we you see Colombo he’s virtually always “on the job”. You don’t really know if he is always as he presents himself to the murderer or if he is just play acting. He’s almost a mythical figure.

Seeing these clips after many years, I can appreciate Falk's acting more. What a genius. A sincere actor.

For a modest civil servant, his knowledge of food is remarkably cultivated.

OMG those mushrooms made my mouth water. Just the description. Hey I haven't had a bite to eat all day and it's almost 4:30 pm... I should also probably get out of bed and make breakfast. 😆

Some great actors in this one and directed by Jonathan Demme....The victim played by Michael Gazzo also acted with Falk in a movie called "Cookie" and wrote a TV movie that Falk was in called "A Hatful of Rain".

I love practically all the Columbo episodes and this one is in my top five. It was interesting to find out that Peter Falk's real wife is in this episode. She appears in quite a few episodes. Also, Alan Alda's younger brother is in this episode.

Reenactments of crimes is a very valuable tool in police investigation. This scene here yielded a few clues for Columbo.
