I watched one of your more recent videos where you said you were working from home doing RoR. That was after purchasing the highest rated RoR course on Udemy which I'm really enjoying. The instructor goes through almost everything, including how to install VirtualBox and Ubuntu on it. I say *almost everything* because using RVM to install Rails will give you Rails 6.0, and he's using Rails 5.0 in the course, so I figured out how to install and use different versions of Rails and got Rails 5.1.7 for the course. Since 5.2 there's no longer a secrets.yml file, and I want to follow the course as best as I can. He's even teaching Git, Github, Heroku, and Pivotal Tracker, and also how to use Postgresql for the DB. During the past four years I've gotten a lot of RoR courses on Udemy, both paid and free. One thing about RoR, it sucks on Windows, especially when you push a project to Heroku. Mac and Linux are the way to go for RoR. For a while I had given up on looking for web developer jobs. I know quite a bit of PHP, Javascript, MySQL, WordPress, etc, but without a college degree, experience, and a portfolio of dynamic sites that also look good, it's about impossible to break into the industry. I've done phone jobs (call centers, corporations, tech support, customer service) for a decade and I really don't want to do that again; I'd honestly rather teach English, but not quite as much as web development.

I thought about learning Ruby, but decided to learn something that wasn't slow as fuck instead.

I specialise in Python and Django. In your opinion, if you have one, how does Ruby on Rails compare to Django? Thanks.

I am interested in learning Ruby/Rails. Should a new dev learn Ruby/Rails and php before JS if their focus is to get a job?
