Hi Lyn, you are 100% correct in regard of the failure to the Shift Lever operation. Good job catching that!

The transmission shifts harder because it is not a traditional torque converted auto. The software updates refined the shifts relatively - but it cannot shift as a torque converted transmission. In return it has better mpg

You can lease these in Colorado for about $300 a month after tax for 24 months. Is there a better deal? Nope! This has to be one of the best vehicle deals on the market today!

This vehicle is really in a category of it's own when you look at it being a PHEV of this size for this price. I have a RAV4 Prime and when I drive around town, 95 % of the time I'm in electric mode and it's a hoot. I imagine it will be the same for a lot of the buyers of this car so for those who might find the shifting a little harsh, many will not experience it that much. Many won't notice it in the first place. If you test drive this be sure to drive it in full electric for a while to get sense for it. When I went to test drive PHEV's the dealerships often did not have them charged up. That was 2021, hopefully it's better now. But if you had an appointment I'd asked them to be sure it's fully charged.

I just picked up the CX-70 Premium plus in white last week (Non EV version - inline6/340HP. To be honest, in the price range it was a clear cut winner over everything else I looked at and drove, considering that most others are 4Cyl now.

I like the “jog-left for Park” shifter for one simple reason: In my 46 years of driving, this is the only vehicle I’ve ever owned (among dozens of both new & used ones) with an automatic transmission. I no longer have a option of a manual transmission on the vast majority of vehicles (note: the Ford Bronco has a 6+1 speed available by special request), so getting Park out of the straight line of R-N-D (no L) is to my (& admittedly only my) liking.

1:26 The Polymetal Gray Metallic is the best color for the CX-70, followed by the Zircon Sand which looks like a very unique color. I don't see any other cars available with that kind of color. Even the Rhodium White Metallic looks beautiful with the black accents

Fuel economy was incorrectly mentioned in the video. It is 56 MPGe. Real world it is around 25 MPG i believe

This is such a cut throat segment! Kudos to Mazda for a pretty solid entry.
Murano was just redesigned. The Outback is the best selling. The Crown Signia is all new and the Passport and Santa Fe both look excellent. Also, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Blazer are competitive. Does anyone know if Ford will continue to make the Edge?

1:39 That's not Soul Red Crystal Metallic. That's the Artistaj Red Metallic only available on the CX-90

Hope they keep making this and improve electric range and that gear shifter in future model years. Would love to upgrade to one of these.

The first Mazda Lyn reviewed was the 1967 Cosmo Sport. It was a real breakthrough for sports cars, reaping the benefits of a rotary engine with 491cc x 2 capacity. Sadly Lyn was only 3 years old at the time so she had a very limited vocabulary and only her parents could understand what she was on about..

The big advantage for me is that you can get a second row bench in all trims, which you can't in the CX90.

I read many of these types of reviews before buying a CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus and regrettably, instead of finding new things to enjoy about the car, I'm finding new things to dislike.

Here is my real life dislike list that may help someone who is shopping.

1.) High beam headlights casts a weird shadow in the field of view.

2.) If a navigation in app like Waze via Android Auto is cancelled, the last direction remains in the HUD.

3.) The battery gets used in every drive mode except when "prioritize charge mode" is engaged. In Pri. Charge Mode, the engine revs/idles high and feels rough, supposedly because its ready to charge the battery.

4.) It's super easy to loose something small between the seat and center console & really difficult to retrieve it.

5.) The moonroof is the weirdest ever... partially opens and lots of wind noise when normal driving. Plus, the tilt feature is not really a tilt 😯.

6.) The Daytime running lights means the "headlights" stay on during the day and not just the LEDs in the grille like every other new car design. This does not look cool.

7.) There is a dummy light section in the headlights for the PHEV Premium Plus which is an actual LED beam in other CX70 trims.

8.) The tail light section on the PHEV rear hatch does not light up as it does in other CX70 trims. (you have to buy & replace them yourself to have working lights ~ $500 & couple hours of DIY effort.

9.) Keep your hand off the shifter while driving, its super easy to nudge the transmission into "N".

Reviews are ok, but they don't mention these fine points. If these are things you don't care about then you should be otherwise happy. BTW, there is already a recall/TSB on the car software to fix an issue where the car can suddenly go completely dead.

I bought a Mazda CX60 3, 3 turbo diesel, mild hybrid (Europe). I must say it is different than the PHEV version. I had a 2019 Mercedes C class before with AMG package, so huge difference. I bought it because my new boat is heavier :) - anyways I agree with Lyn about the PHEV version totally. The diesel version is although way better but I don't believe it is sold in the us

All people asked for is a little bigger cx5. And no, don't like the cheaper feeling material alabama made cx50. Why Mazda🤦‍♂️

There isn't really any extra space over the cx90. You are paying for a three row and getting a two row the size of a three row that's on the lot right next to it.
