admire you so much!! It’s been such a joy to witness your standup journey so far (and I’m def living vicariously through you bc I’ve always wanted to try it!) you are my queen of hobbies / trying new creative pursuits 🙏🏻

loved this :) having a flexible perception of yourself that allows you to lean into curiosity more easily is equal parts beautiful and also, so brave hahaha it's so vulnerable to throw yourself into new things and give yourself the permission to geek out and go all in like that. i'm taking a mf page out of your book, I LOVE IT!!!!

"don't have a single narrative about yourself" is amazing advice. thank you

I just did my first 5 minute set a few weeks ago. I just started going to a comedy club in my neighborhood and started making friends, I mentioned one time I've always wanted to do stand-up but I don't think I'm that naturally funny and everyone encouraged me to do it. You truly don't have to be naturally funny! I crushed it on my first set and I felt the same way you did - I felt like I leveled up, but now I'm afraid to do it again 😅 I performed at a women's showcase, and I think my sense of humor resonates more with women, so we'll see how well I do at a regular open mic 😅

The fact that I said I was going to do it, then I did it 1 month later and I prepared so well and practiced and nailed the delivery really gave me a ton of confidence. I write jokes all the time now, every time I notice something funny I make a note and when I have down time, I rework the jokes and get them just right. So many men just go up on stage and say semi funny (or just not funny) shit with zero preparation and it never deters them, and that gives me a ton of confidence, too.

The instant gratification of making a large group of people laugh is honestly unmatched.

Im honestly so pissed that YouTube didn't show me this before now. Not surprised, but definitely god damned pissed. You are have an amazing vibe and such a kind vibe! Thank you for posting!

This is so interesting because my friends say im funny but i am also a bumbling fool and could never imagine getting the stand up timings right/crowd work.... let alone not having stage fright. You're super brave. Also, understand the feelings you're getting. I'm learning how to swim as an adult and the feeling of floating around being proud after a good session, makes the lows possible, plus i never thought I'd manage it :'))

I just got the most insane right-wing ad following this video promoting a movie titled Am I Racist. You weren’t kidding when you said you’re automatically politicized.

Seeing your insta posts on this and then hearing you talk about it is so inspiring! You should definitely get some of the stand up content up on your channel

I have been watching your videos infrequently and am literally attending a stand-up class next week after this election because for years, I have wanted to try to do comedy (also with the idea of comedy writing in the future) yet never took the time for it due to a lot of things I have had to balance with myself. I commend you for doing it for a year so far, from one black woman to another.

Omg YAS, we funny! I'm Aboriginal Australian. I support my BLK American brothers! European males enslaved, colonized and subjugated our people for over three generations! European men tried to breed the melanin out of our skin! I respect you for speaking out for the oppressed people globally, much love man...!!!❤❤💯❤👍🏾❤❤💯

Hello Amanda! I love the video. So I’m going to leave a nice long comment to boost your video for the YouTube algorithm gods! I know it’s hard as a content creator to get the videos you worked so hard on to get going with the algorithm. So hopefully this comment gets it on its way. I used to leave really short comments just saying “hi” or “<3” but I’ve heard lately that sometimes the algorithm doesn’t count comments like that, and it only counts longer ones. Or the longer ones count more? I’m not sure. Anyway, hopefully that does it. I love your content! <3

Writing your jokes on paper and it ends up being just as funny, if not more, when acted out is a beautiful feeling. Good luck to you!

2:35 Gary Gulman has one of my favorite stand-up specials of all time ' In This Economy ' . I'm pretty sure it's like a decade or so old but the words rang true now more than ever
