What do you think? Is the generac a good alternative to the Honda or would you buy a different model all together or stick with Honda…??

*A quiet **Generater.Systems**, love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*

I bought a Honda 3500 watt portable generator in 2004. It never let me down. Even after having it stored with fuel (and stabilizer) for 4 years it still started on the first pull.

Honda engines are legendary. Cost more but trouble free.

I service all size generators for a living and at the beginning of summer the largest cable company contacted my company to service about 60 little guys like these. They had 29 Hondas and 27 Generacs. After these very abused units were serviced, 26 of those Hondas worked perfect. Only 7... 7 of the Generacs were 100% after the services. The rest needed parts or outright need replaced. So I'd advise anyone buying one of these little guys, if you're going to use it a lot and even abused it, buy the Honda.

I repair generators. Generac inverters are unreliable. Engines are great, but their inverter boards are low quality and prone to failure. New boards run $450 plus. Spend the money and buy the Honda. Trust me.

I’ve had my Honda EU2200i for 5 years now. Great generator. Just this winter we lost power for 4 days at the cottage. It ran 24/7 straight. Powered the fridge/freezer, lights. No issues at all. Low oil automatic shut off worked great (that was my fault). Very little maintenance needed. It’s just a great machine. I find the fuel consumption is very good also. Thinking of buying a second one for parallel use.

After Ian, ran the 2200i basically 24/7 for 8 days. Changed the oil 3 days in, Ran my deep freezer, fridge, tv, fan & a lamp. Stayed in eco mode until my wife fired up the coffeemaker. Burned 2-3 gallons per day

I owned a Honda generator (2000) in the late 1980s - 90s for eight years total. I used to to detail cars mobile for 6-10 hours a day. Then I sold that business along with the generator. 15 years later I called the guy to see how he was doing. Generator still running fine. Thousands and thousands of hours. Decades of use. Always started on the first pull. Absolutely amazing.

Was a laborer on a power plant, my job was to keep the two 5500 watt Honda’s with gas and oil, those generators ran 8-10 hours a day for 3 1/2 yrs some times 7 days a week, only shut down for 1/2 lunch, carpenters drill, saws electricians pipe benders .... never changed oil as the boss said we don’t have time for that, when it’s a $ 27 mil job, still started first pull, zero problems

Excellent unbiased review! Finally a reviewer who uses a professional sound pressure level meter, electrical load meter and real world testing parameters. Fast paced and concise. Very impressive. Very informative. Thank you.

I went a different direction with a Yamaha EF2800i about 10 years ago, they are a little more expensive but it still always starts first pull when needed a decade later and has never had any issues.

I've been having my Honda EU 2200 for 7 years now and never had a problem with it. They are reliable generators and you can't go wrong with owning one.

$455 generator is better than NO generator when the power goes out.

Bought the generac for $365 on Amazon a week or so after Black Friday. Haven't lost power yet but I bought it specifically to handle the pellet stove in case we do. I ran it for 10 hours with no load just to break it in with a magnetic dipstick. Also added a run time counter.

After the initial test I went ahead and changed the oil and then ran the pellet stove for around 24 hours. Unsurprisingly, had no issues.

For the price of entry compared to the frequency I'm likely to use it (we've only really had one real outage in the five years we've lived here), I'd say it's a winner. Honda does have a stellar reputation, but it's hard to justify $1000+ for what we are using it for. For those who use this for camping or work, I'd say that makes the Honda a much more justifiable price.

I own the eu2200i and it is great. The fuel pump on it allows you to use the extended run fuel cap and connect to a 6 gallon portable boat fuel tank. I really wish honda would make this a dual fuel from the factory so you could run propane.

That heat gun test is impressive.

The Honda put out cleaner power and was considerably quieter doing it. Remember decibel measurements aren't linear, so 72 constant decibels can almost seem twice as loud as 62. This makes a huge difference if you're at a camp site.

I'd love to get a Honda, but the $1100 price tag is too much. If it were closer to $800 or so it would make the choice easier IMO. I know Honda price locks their generators, but I'd like to see a dealer invoice to know exactly what they're getting from Honda. Pricing competition wouldn't be a bad thing for us consumers.

I own the Generac GP2200i ... it's handled several multi-day outages without a hitch .. we even had a movie night generator style.

Nice comparison review! The sound difference is huge. That's why you see Honda generators at TV towers at golf tournaments.

I own on of these 2200 generacs for a while now and can say it’s a great machine for the cost haven’t had any problems with it but if you got extra money it’s the best to get the Honda but still generac is good

I work in construction. We use the Honda eu2200. And I’m constantly amazed at what they will do. Unbeatable.
