Doesn't matter what car and what differential you have. It's all in the tires. Try putting summer tires on AWD while FWD or RWD have winter tires. See who stays stationary.

It’s all about tires people not the drive of the wheels

OR NOT PULLING THE HANDBRAKE AT THE START

Clearly the winner is the front wheel drive

Simple physics kiddies and AWD will always trump FWD and RWD when it comes to traction compromised driving conditions. (I speak from very extensive winter driving experience). Now before you all get your panties in a wad, allow me to explain. The primary function of AWD is to have more added points of torque conveyance to the pavement (which common sense will dictate helps get you going) and therein lies the math that will always shoot down opposing arguments. 4 wheels being driven will ALWAYS provide more powered tire surface area on the road than 2wd.... cut and dried, and that applies to just about any type of compromised surface condition that you will run into in the real World.

Now..can a FWD/RWD with a good set of snow tires perform admirably and perhaps close the gap somewhat with an AWD vehicle WITHOUT snow tires on slick roads? of course but you know.. smart people like me are going to use good snow tires in winter conditions regardless of what drive configuration we own.

If AWD was as useless as some of the bird brains here on youtube would like to imply, , .. then why on earth does AWD exist to begin with?

Trust me when I tell you and if I was ever caught in some bad winter condition.. I would MUCH rather have AWD than not. AWD is also nice in other types of daily driving conditions as well but I don't have time to get into that. I have owned AWD, 4WD, FWD and RWD vehicles and there are things I like about all of them so keep that in mind before you start bleating any hate in my direction.

Nothing wrong with non AWD vehicles but several people talking out of their butts here in the comment section.

I used all seasons on my suv this winter and I'd have to say they were really really decent. probably more than likely going to save up for some winter tires for next season, braking and turning was still a pain at times

In my case, for the car I have, which is front wheel drive; winter driving on snow and ice is definitely unsafe....with only all- season tires. I must have winter tires installed for winter conditions.

yeah that's about right. lol my fwd sel Taurus could not get up my driveway. I had to back up and get up to 4mph just to get in it and it still almost didn't.

That Subaru sounds horrible. Hopefully that's not drivetrain noise like it sounds like.

2nd Gear and there is less wheelspin.. 1st has to much power

1st pulling the handbrake when you want to start, is not good.
2nd: get winter tires!

Poor demonstration. FWD will always beat the AWD! FWD vehicles also get better traction because the weight of the engine and transmission are over the front wheels. Generally speaking, good traction in snow and rain makes your drive safer than if you were in a vehicle with rear wheel drive (RWD). My wife's Toyota Sienna FWD is a monster in any snow conditions. There are plenty of articles (Consumer Reports) disproving your video.

The difference wasn't wheel drive, the difference was the neither was a volvo. Sobthey both sucked.
