In general I think people underestimate how useful and fun it can be to directly affect which way engine torque is directed via the steering wheel. In effect, it’s driver controlled torque vectoring.

Can confirm, careful swinging out the rear end on rwd. It's heavier. FWD feels like there's no consequence to swinging out.

I’m not a rally driver but I have driven several AWD, RWD and FWD cars both in real life and in dirt rally on loose surfaces. And my conclusion is: RWD is high risk high reward, FWD is beginner friendly and AWD expands on both, the result is if you’re skilled and brave enough you can achieve much higher top speed on the same road

Bearing in mind this is on a loose surface and clearly a known section (or pace notes), the impressive looking FWD sideways approach takes time and distance to set up whereas RWD with enough power or limited grip can get sideways very rapidly :-D
On tarmac / asphalt / whatever you call the black stuff, it's a different matter.

If you put a very large rear sway bar on an a/t Subaru (80/20 torque split), you get all the easy handling benefit of FWD with the fun and 'oversteer on demand' of RWD.

So what have we learned from the video ?
That a 1970's Lada can be just as fast as a 1980's VW.

Fwd are much more forgiving which in a way makes then more fun, less scary. You throw the car in, point the front wheels in the direction you want to go and accelerate out of the corner basically. You can get a massive sideways swing like that one handed with minimal steering input in a fwd. it takes x10 the skill to do the same in a rwd, using just as little physical energy. Making fwd much more fun imo.
