Ivory king literally said "I can fix her" and actually fixed her

There is literally not a single character in the entire soul series more deserving of the title of King.

Burnt Ivory King is the true definition of a King, he literally had his thrown room in front of chaos and sat there basically saying to Chaos itself "Take your time, I'll be here and waiting for you"

Even the boss arena of the burnt ivory king is opposites of vendricks, instead of being in a cold dark room he is in a fantastic glow of chaos coming out in such spectacular fashion. He doesnt act like a hollow but a warrior who's skills remain and show how truly inspiring he was when he wasnt corrupted, his ivory unburnt fully unlike the soldiers he took with, not even the flames of chaos fully taint his image of a white knight in shining armor.

I love that you have to fight a bunch of the king’s knights before you can fight him. I hate that you have to do it every time

Similar to the idea that Aegon Targaryen had about being a king, the reason he had for making the Iron Throne basically a torture device that cut whoever sit on ot: "Having a throne doesn't make you a king, it means that you have an arse, a king should never sit comfortably for a king must be constantly vigilant, keeping an eye on the realm, helping his people, and not relaxing, for a king could never have friends"
The whole idea that being a king is basically a position where you give everything to the people, until you have nothing else to give, your life, your house, your children, all belongs to the people.

I feel like there is a commentary on what it means to be a good Monarch. The Ivory King was a bulwark, a shield against the threats against his kingdom. Vendrick failed because he attempted to be a sword, striking down those who where seen as a threat. And Vendrick was misused in that way, being tricked by his beloved Queen. And he mocked by those in the know. The Ivory king on the other hand is remembered fondly, despite ultimately being no more successful then any of the other kings.

I really like the Ivory King's and his knights helmets.

They are a type of helmet that was only used in tournaments and they could not be turned side to side and they only were able to watch forward because of that.

This kinda symbolises how they had a single purpose and enemy The Chaos.

I love the burnt ivory king, however I think he is yet still one last reminder of the failure of kings. Heavy is the crown, is true in ds2 in a sort of suffocating sense. The decision to single handedly govern the fates of others suffocates everything about a person, and the only "good king" litterally lost his identity and soul to do it. It feels like a commentary on monarchy thats oft overlooked, monarchy is absolutely terrible for everyone including the monarchs.

If DS2 ever gets a remake or remaster, this gigachad better be even better then he is now. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Walking out of the flames like this is also very very cool

Although it can be argued that it is a natural process that would have happened regardless, I can't help but think that although this game talks about the failings of Kings, the Ivory King didn't really fully fail, as if we go by the state that Chaos is in Dark Souls III it would seem like his efforts may have lead to the end of the Chaos Flame and demons which only adds to his legacy as one of the greatest kings in this series

I also like the detail that Ivory King is left handed. I don't know if it's an overly intentional decision or the true meaning behind it but I've always seen it as another nod to the ivory king being a good king based in his merits and not on the status

Left handed people in medieval times were seen as strange and un-holy; it wasn't natural and as a result was often either corrected or you were disliked by the church

Ivory King however remains left handed and proves himself to be a good man and dies a good man despite it

DS2 likes to put the literary meaning of Epic into some of its epic battles

One of my favorite Dark Souls Boss in the entire franchise. I really like the lore and the boss fight. The music is so epic.
He was a good man, comming from humble origin and figjting for love and his people.
You feel happiness helping him out of his misery and finishing his fight but also one feels sadness for the demise of such a man.

This boss is seriously just so awesome; visual design, story, arena, ost, all of it.

The ivory king is possibly my favorite character in all the souls games, he loved despite the odds, defended his people, despite the odds, and when all hope was lost he threw himself first at the danger, only to burnt alive, and now having to be defeated himself, I like to think he actually killed whatever the old chaos was holding, but it took him in the process, I always love ending the game on that dlc, because when I am asked what makes a king, I look to the ivory king to show me, that the crown may be held by nobility in title, but only the truly noble and selfless creatures of the world are fit to be called “king”
