I have been a designer of computer software systems for a significant part of my somewhat long life. One of the most brutal lessons I learned is that less that 1/3 of the adult population can NOT read or hear a description of an event, process, or system and visualize what it will accomplish. Henry Ford's "Faster Horse" comment is alive and well. This especially applies to people who make their living or are educated in "Soft" skills, like finance.

The report quoted is in the Financial Times. The FT is owned by the Nikkei family, in Japan. Japan stands to suffer big time from the electrification of the economy and vehicles. The FT has been against EV's for many years.

On 5/4 I checked Model Y (any config) inventory in SoCal, PHX, Austin, Chicago. It was like 10 cars TOTAL. Yah Drew, no demand!

Even if FSD is never fully realised (highly unlikely), shorting TSLA at the current SP is a very risky strategy.

SMR is totally correct in his opening analysis:
--Buying a $200 stock (going "Long") gives you an Infinite upside to make money....and a $200 maximum downside per share.
--Shorting a $200 stock (going "Short", or selling shares before you own them) gives you a maximum upside of...less than $200 per share. The theory is that you sell, say, 100 shares of TSLA...hoping they go belly up and you'll buy-to-cover those 100 shares that you owe (because you're actually borrowing someone else's shares when you Short Sell)...at, say, $1 per share.
So you Short Sold 100 shares @ $200 = $20, 000 in cash you get.
Then you Buy-to-cover those 100 shares @ $1 = $100 to cover
Maximum profit= $20, 000 - $100 = $19, 900
But, your maximum downside for loss = $$$INFINITY$$$
Because if you sell short 100 shares @ $200 = $20, 000 cash
BUT if TSLA goes to $700 per share...your losses are $500 per share, or 100 x $500 = $50, 000 loss
AND @:
TSLA = $1200 you lose $100, 000
TSLA = $2200 you lose $200, 000
TSLA = $5200 you lose $500, 000
Your loss is potentially INFINITY $$$$!!!
Imagine back when BRK.A was $10, 000 PER SHARE. Someone might say, "Overrated!! Time to Short Sell!!!"

Sorry, but I disagree with your kind assessment of Drew. Over the past 3 weeks this media empire has published hit piece after hit piece against EVs, Musk and Tesla. This article was aimed at the more reasoned amongst their readers. My neighbour, an intelligent chap involved in underwriting vehicle warranty issues is totally convinced that Tesla vehicles are crap, citing fires, door locks, steering wheels etc. I have a model Y, he bought his wife an ID3. You can guess how it's going.

Imagine... In the future the bar for a human being able to drive their own car will slowly rise higher and higher. At first people with reckless driving and DUI infractions will have their license removed. After that they'll start going after high risk drivers with bad records. Then the elderly will be forced to FSD. Eventually this trend will work its way through the system to the point where any driving infractions force you to FSD. And then one day you won't be able to drive yourself even if you want to. Not to mention that kids won't need to go through the bother of taking drivers Ed and that alone will eliminate human drivers over time. Like it or not FSD is going to change everything about the way the world is navigated.

You got valid points though Inflation is dilapidating. Quite sad what's happening in the market. Although, even the worst recessions offer wonderful buying opportunities in the markets if you're cautious. Volatility can also result in excellent short-term buy and sell opportunities. The market circumstances are driving me insane, my portfolio has lost almost $13K this month alone, my earnings are tanking. I'd appreciate some financial advice from anyone who knows more going forward.Inflation is dilapidating.
